If a team paper is selected to receive the award, the cash portion will be divided equally between the undergraduate authors. There may be co-authors who are not students, but lead authors must be undergraduate students.

Each recipient will receive an award of $1,000. Up to five awards are given each year. The EGSRA funds may be used for direct research expenses (e.g., computer time, animal care, equipment, participant fees, incentives), software and/or conference travel; it may not be used for tuition, fees, or personal expenses. 

Early Graduate Student Researcher Award Eligibility Criteria

At the time of the application deadline, the student must meet each of the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled in a doctoral program in psychology (or related discipline) at a regionally accredited university located in the United States or Canada.
  • Have not yet proposed their dissertation at the time of the application deadline.
  • Be an APA graduate student member or apply for APA student membership before the award application deadline.
  • To ensure geographic diversity, a maximum of one student per department will be selected for an Early Graduate Student Researcher Award per year, but departments are not limited in the number of applications that may be submitted each year.

The fields of competition for this year are:

CGS/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Awards Eligibility Criteria

  • “Regular” institutional members of CGS may submit nominations.
  • Each eligible member may nominate one person in the field of humanities and fine arts and one person in the field of biological sciences. (for a total of two nominations maximum, per institution). A separate nomination form and package must be submitted for each institutional nominee.
  • The effective date of the degree awarded, or the completion of doctoral degree requirements and dissertation, must lie in the period of July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023, inclusive, for each nominee selected. Such degree award or completion is to be confirmed by the institution’s graduate dean or other administrative officer responsible for doctoral degree programs.

FAQ About Social Issues Dissertation Award

All applicants will be notified of their status by July 1. Finalists will be asked to provide:

  • Certification by the dissertation advisor of the acceptance date of the dissertation
  • A full electronic copy of the dissertation.
  • The final decision will be announced by September 1.
