You are responsible for determining whether you want to keep receiving the grant during your voluntary internship or if it should be stopped. You are not eligible to continue receiving grant funds after the regular length of your academic course if you complete an internship. You must let the ESOP office (Financial Aid Office) know if you intend to participate in an internship.

Is it allowed to h an assistantship during the ESOP?

As long as the studies are not jeopardised, ESOP and assistantship are compatible. If the assistantship forces you to extend your course of study, you will be responsible for paying for the extra semester on your own.

FAQ About Scholarship

Who can apply?

Candidates with very strong academic records (there is no list of needed grades per nation available).

Only international university graduates who have earned a degree judged equal to a Swiss university bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS credits) are eligible to apply. The Admissions Office (SII) will determine whether or not the candidate is formally eligible if the Masters Scholarship application file is complete. If so, the faculty will review the application and decide whether or not to accept the individual for admission to the desired master’s course.

It is not permitted for students with a foreign university degree to apply if they have already started a Masters programme at UNIL or are in their first year of study.

Is there an age limit?

The Master Scholarship is open to candidates of any age. However, for applicants from nations with visa limitations, being older and having earned a first master’s degree may make it more difficult or impossible to receive a visa. Before applying, we advise you to confirm with the Swiss diplomatic mission there.

How do I apply for the Masters Scholarship and for admission to the master’s programme at UNIL?

As previously stated, candidates must not submit their application for admission to the desired master’s degree at UNIL through the Admissions Office (SII). Application for admission to the Masters programme is included in the application for the Masters Scholarship.

As stated above under the “Selection timeline” tab, candidates whose application for a scholarship has been rejected (but was accepted by the faculty) may only apply via the SII if they wish to continue their application for admission to their chosen master’s degree as a regular student after the selection process for the Masters Scholarships. They will get a letter outlining the steps to take for master’s degree regular registration.

Who can write a recommendation letter?

Any member of the teaching staff (lecturers, supervisors, assistant lecturers, etc.) who has knowledge of your past or present academic endeavours. Any of your employers, both present and past, are permitted to submit a letter of recommendation.

Authors of the letters of reference must email them directly to mastergrants@unil.ch with the applicant’s complete name included in the subject line. November 1st is the due date.

Recommendation letters must be supplied after submitting an online application.

Of course, more than two letters of recommendation are acceptable.

Is the Master’s Grant sufficient to live in Switzerland?

The Federal and Cantonal Authorities estimate that a monthly income of about CHF 2000 is required to live in Lausanne. As a result, the Masters Scholarship’s award doesn’t fully cover a student’s costs. Thus, having some personal supplemental cash resources to augment the monthly budget is strongly advised. Furthermore, the 10-month academic year is the only time the Masters Scholarship is paid out. The time frame from 15 July to 15 September is not included.

The International Foundation for Research in Paraplegia, or IRP, was founded in Geneva on June 22, 1995. IRP is a foundation that is responsible to the Federal Authority for the Supervision of Foundations and is registered at the Commercial Register of the Canton of Geneva. IRP’s mission is to finance fundamental and clinical paraplegia research both domestically and internationally.

With the assistance of a specialised Scientific Committee, IRP works tirelessly to gather money for, select, and support the greatest research initiatives in order to aid those whose lives have been negatively impacted by spinal cord injuries.

This study’s findings will help researchers develop treatments for other neurological conditions including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and strokes.

IRP has built its activities around its complementary purposes in addition to the choice and funding of projects:

encouraging scientific collaboration and information sharing between Swiss and international scholars;

raising public knowledge of the advancement of science and uses thereof;

cooperating with organisations, notably universities, to achieve the same objectives

Supporting additional paraplegia-related activities that might otherwise go unsupported.

About IRP

The Board is IRP’s highest level of authority. It meets at least twice year and makes voluntary commitments.
