1. Postdoctoral Research Associate

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Reporting to Principal Investigator, Dr. Fiona Miller, the Research Associate will take a leadership role in a CIHR-funded health policy study of health technology governance, examining how the agencies that collectively regulate the adoption of health technologies by health systems, and inform their utilization, influence the environmental sustainability of healthcare products and services. In recognition of the fact that pharmaceuticals and medical devices are estimated to contribute 35% of healthcare’s carbon footprint, alongside solid waste and pollution, the study aims to generate and translate knowledge and identify policy options to improve the environmental performance of health technologies. The study uses a multiple case study design to investigate the core phenomenon: How regulatory action affects the environmental performance of health technologies. We aim to analyze three cases of the phenomenon (market access, HTA, procurement), with technology type (drug, device) as an embedded unit of analysis.

9. Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Prof. Daniel M Roy, in the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Toronto Scarborough, invites applicants for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to conduct collaborative research in mathematical statistics outlined in an awarded NFRFE-2018 New Frontier in Research proposal, titled “Rebuilding the Foundations of Bayesian Statistics on Nonstandard Analysis”. The proposed research in mathematical statistics aims to characterize the set-theoretic relationships between Bayesian and frequentist notions of optimality in statistical decision theory. The approach is to use nonstandard analysis to replace countably additive (prior) probability measures with hypercountably additive probability measures. The project will also look at the connection between frequentist admissibility in location models and recurrence of Markov chains; the role of hyperfinite sets in establishing the existence of so-called “matching priors” to connect confidence intervals and credible regions; and the relationship with approaches based on charges.
