The project synopsis is: To understand inherent uncertainties in weather prediction, it is common to consult stochastically perturbed simulation ensembles with highly detailed ensemble members. Extracting relevant conclusions from such ensembles is very challenging and depends on a successful condensation of the data. Especially when aiming at an interpretation of an entire ensemble in terms of domain-relevant features, such as cyclones, fronts, rain, etc., summarization is very difficult and only possible on the basis of expert knowledge. If we can learn how this evolution happens, we will be better equipped to design treatments and strategies to beat these diseases. Large-scale genetic data exists on AMR in different bacteria worldwide, and our collaborators are generating more. However, mathematical and statistical approaches to learn evolutionary behaviour from these data remain limited. Our group has recently developed several approaches for inferring evolutionary dynamics from diverse data, with successful applications to diverse biological and medical questions. This project will adapt, develop, and harness these approaches to learn how AMR evolves from existing and new data. The project seeks to deepen our understanding of the natural range of atmospheric climate variability in the Southern Ocean. We are particularly interested in the past behavior of the Southern hemisphere westerlies: powerful winds that regulate Earth`s climate by spurring ocean circulation, storing anthropogenic carbon, and exchanging heat. The southerly westerly winds play a very important role in the global climate system. Observations show that they also play an important role in today’s global warming. To reconstruct the climate system, the project will use glaciers as a climate indicator through studies of lakes. To make continuousreconstructions of the glaciers, one will use various proxy methods that include CT scanning and cryptotephra analysis to ensure the most robust reconstructions possible. All sediment samples were collected during the field season of 2019. For the DYNASOR project, the successful candidate will contribute with lake sediment analyses from Iceland using the same methods as in the Kerguelen Islands but with focus on reconstructing past mega floods from the glacier Vatnaj\u00f6kull.
