1. Fully Funded PhD Position in intelligent control
Summary of PhD Program:
ICEMAN project pioneers sustainable manufacturing by exploring connections between manufacturing heat signatures and surface integrity. In the context of the industry’s substantial contribution to global CO2 emissions, ICEMAN aims to optimize productivity, environmental impact, and product lifecycle. Our prior work in heatmetry and surface characterization suggests that manufacturing heat signatures correlate with process performance and surface integrity. Objectives include developing a high-speed heat flux sensor tool and an AI-based real-time control system. ICEMAN innovatively employs Heat Flux Sensors for precise, instantaneous in-situ measurements.
Application Deadline: 30th of August, 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantum Doctoral (QDoc) Pilot programme
Summary of PhD Program:
We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher for a three-year fixed-term contract, funded by the national QDoc doctoral education pilot. If the applicant does not have the right to study for a doctoral degree at the University of Turku, they must apply for the right to study for a doctoral degree via the Studyinfo.fi -service from the EXACTUS doctoral programme. The right to study is a prerequisite for starting the employment position. For more details regarding the right to study call and eligibility criteria, please see (EXACTUS).

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in immunoregulation in autoimmunity and cancer in Molecular Systems Immunology
Summary of PhD Program:
Molecular Systems Immunology group aims at understanding the regulation of human immune system to predict, prevent and treat immune mediated disorders. We study epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of T cells and molecular mechanisms of immune mediated diseases such as Type 1 Diabetes.
Application Deadline: 19 August 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Astronomy
Summary of PhD Program:
The Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO is seeking for a fixed term Doctoral researcher/ Project researcher in astronomy, more specifically in the field of active galactic nuclei. This work is part of a consortium project, JetOrigin, funded by the Research Council of Finland, which is a joint project between two research groups in two different universities. The selected person will analyze polarization observations conducted with the ALMA interferometer in order to study magnetic fields in the plasma jets launched by supermassive black holes. They will also compare the observations with numerical simulations and theoretical models.
Application Deadline: 16 August 2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Health Technology
Summary of PhD Program:
The positions are in the STIMULUS project (Speckle Technology and Digital Biomarkers of Microvascular Function for Monitoring Cardiovascular Diseases), funded by a European Innovation Council Pathfinder grant. In this project, we develop new instruments for assessing adverse changes in microcirculatory status linked to hypertension, chronic kidney disease and heart failure, leading to earlier detection of cardiovascular diseases (over 60 million people in the EU suffer from them). The instruments are developed and validated in clinical trials. We integrate two state-of-the-art technologies leading to a novel innovation, 3D speckle tissue monitoring.
Application Deadline: 8 August 2024

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Supramolecular Engineering of Layered Double Perovskites in Photovoltaics
Summary of PhD Program:
The doctoral project will involve the development of supramolecularly engineered layered double perovskite materials in photovoltaics. This will require molecular synthesis of organic spacer components and the application of solid-state material chemistry methods, which will be complemented with the analysis of optoelectronic properties, as well as fabrication and analysis of devices for energy conversion in photovoltaics. The project will mostly involve research on hybrid materials and their functional device fabrication and characterization.
