1. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational chemistry
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD project will deal with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for the study of functional catalytic compounds. A possible direction of the project is the development of advanced dynamic approaches for detailed and realistic study of reaction mechanisms and reaction networks considering in a sophisticated manner environmental effects (also under catalytic conditions). This can include the development of advanced enhanced sampling and machine learning approaches.
Application Deadline: June 30th 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mathematics with coordination of all mathematics modules
Summary of PhD Program:
The Institute of Mathematics (I-Math) at the UZH is using contributions from the PH Zurich to finance a doctoral position. This position is filled every 3-4 years. In addition to a doctorate at I-Math, the position offers an insight into teacher training and is particularly suitable for people who are interested in pedagogical and didactic topics or who are looking to work at a high school.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Veterinary Parasitology
Summary of PhD Program:
We focus on different aspects of parasite infections in a wide array of animals aiming at better animal health, welfare and productivity. We investigate the pathological and pathophysiological processes inducing parasitic diseases, the molecular negotiations between parasites and their hosts, and develop and study the performance of diagnostic tools for individual analyses and epidemiological studies. Our overall goal is to understand the pathogenesis of parasitoses and to identify appropriate therapies and control measures.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Inter/Transdisciplinary Research in Traffic Medicine
Summary of PhD Program:
We recently published a pilot study displaying the potential of a driving-simulation-based maintenance of wakefulness test (DS-MWT) to better assess the effects of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) on driving performance. The candidate will primarily be responsible for two concise complementary randomized-controlled trials (RCTs), further validating the pilot against classical MWTs in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)-affected volunteers for transfer into (clinical) use in traffic medicine. The RCTs’ study protocols are already in preparation. The project will be performed in cooperation with the University Hospital Zurich (PD Dr. med. Esther I. Schwarz, USZ, Pneumology).

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational psychiatry
Summary of PhD Program:
In the context of a new ERC Synergy project (DELTA-LANG), our lab is interested in novel ways of phenotyping psychotic disorders, including quantitative analysis of language with large language models, combined with multimodal neuroimaging (model-based fMRI, neuromelanin imaging and others). The goal is to design and implement novel paradigms (e.g. combined fMRI and speech production) and use methods such as machine learning, multilevel analyses and computational modeling to decompose behavioral performance into interpretable aspects of cognitive and perceptual processing.
