4. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Photonics laboratory at MC2 is a dynamic and creative group with about 35 members working in an international and collaborative atmosphere. We perform both curiosity-driven and applied-research in the areas of fiber-optic systems, optoelectronics and silicon photonics. We enjoy a state-of-the-art laboratory for fiber-optic communications and use the Nanofabrication Laboratory to manufacture our own photonic devices. Part of this research efforts focusses on chip-scale photonic devices such as frequency combs and ‘noiseless’ optical parametric amplifiers based on silicon nitride or thin-film lithium niobate intended for optical communication applications but also other emerging applications.

6. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You will synthesize electrocatalytic materials with high atomic efficiency of metals, including single atom electrocatalysts. You will characterize the prepared catalysts and have access to a wide range of advanced characterization techniques available at the department and at the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL) such as XPS, SEM, TEM, XRD… You will carry out electrocatalytic tests in electrochemical cells. A very important aspect of the project will be to develop in situ/operando characterization techniques to elucidate the nature of the active site(s) during reaction. These will be primarily done at synchrotron facilities.

7. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In quantum optics, it is common to assume that atoms can be approximated as point-like compared to the wavelength of the light they interact with. It is only in the past few years that experiments (at Chalmers, MIT, and other places), with artificial atoms built from superconducting circuits, have shown that this assumption can be violated. These artificial atoms can couple to an electromagnetic field at several points, which can be wavelengths apart. The study of giant atoms and the interference effects that arise from their coupling points is still in its infancy, but it is attracting increasing attention. In this project, we aim to go from fundamental research towards useful applications of giant atoms in emerging quantum technology.

11. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The lithium-ion battery market is currently experiencing exponential growth all over the world. As one of the important components in batteries, the binder plays a critical role not only in the mechanical properties of the formed electrode but also in determining the long-term cycling performance of the battery. However, the polymer-based binders used for both anode (especially silicon-based anode) and cathode have their issues. The current postdoc position will focus on the development of a new binder system, which includes both the synthesis/modification of the polymer or biomaterials-related binders and also development of a new electrode manufacturing process.

13. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Biorefineries, where renewable feedstocks are converted by microbial biocatalysts to bio-based chemicals, are instrumental to transition away from fossil-resource dependent processes. In our research group, we use state-of-the-art technologies such as CRISPR, adaptive laboratory evolution, integrative omics data analysis and computational models of metabolism to engineer yeast as microbial biocatalyst. Beyond the proof-of-concept stage, we now look to make the process industrially relevant, by addressing aspects such as optimizing TRY, optimal feedstock usage and fermentation scale-up. 15. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The discovery of Topological Insulators (TIs) has revolutionized the basic notions of materials such as metals, insulators, semiconductors, superconductors, and magnets. Here the properties of a metal and of an insulator are encompassed in the very same compound leading to a new state of matter where a topology plays a fundamental role. TI materials are insulators in the bulk while possessing a conducting surface characterized by helical Dirac states, which are massless fermions with the spin locked to the momentum. The Dirac node is responsible for the novel emergent states and controls the topological protection of the surface states.
