3. Postdoctoral Research Associate in bioinformatics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Protein Structure and Bioinformatics group investigates genetic and other variations and their effects on DNA, RNA and protein, on structural, functional and other levels. We have developed several of the most reliable variation effect predictors as PON-P2 and PON-MMR for variant pathogenicity, PON-Sol and PON-Stab for molecular effects and PON-mt-tRNA and PON-BTK for molecule-specific predictions. We use and develop bioinformatic methods to reveal the significance of the variants especially in the relation of diseases. The group is lead by professor Mauno Vihinen.

4. Postdoctoral fellow in synchroton chemical nanomapping

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Environmental systems are strongly determined by their microscale spatial heterogeneity and interfaces that set conditions for their microbial drivers. We are studying both these microhabitats and how they affect microbial functions using different methods, amongst which are synchrotron techniques, such as Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscopy and X-ray Fluorescence mapping, to visualize the chemical signatures on the nanoscale. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated young researcher for an interdisciplinary project joining microbial ecology at the Department of Biology, with chemical mapping techniques at MAX IV Laboratory (Softi/NanoMAX beamlines), both at Lund University. The project focuses on designing and performing synchrotron experiments on complex environmental samples, such as soil and microbial metabolites, but is open to other biologically relevant systems, with the possibility to incorporate microfluidics.

6. Postdoctoral fellow in biogeochemistry

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

It is widely recognized that the expansion of silica biomineralization in the oceans has affected the evolutionary competition for dissolved Si. There is a widely accepted idea that the appearance of siliceous organisms contributed to a marine DSi decline in the late-Precambrian/early Phanerozoic, based largely on inferences from chert petrology, but direct evidence for this event is missing. The Ediacaran-Cambrian is a critical period when the earliest siliceous fossils (siliceous sponges and radiolarians) are recorded, accompanied by fluctuations in marine redox conditions, terrigenous inputs, climate and biological innovations. The aim of this project is to explore the silicon cycle evolution through the Ediacaran-Cambrian periods and its interaction with other geological/biological processes.
