The PDF will carry out both in vitro cancer cell biology experiments using cell culture model systems and in vivo characterization in mice. The project will involve transfection of cells, gene knock-down and rescue experiments, qPCR, Western blotting, immunoprecipitations, ELISAs, cell-based cancer assays and analysis of tumor growth and metastasis in mice. 2. Postdoctoral Fellowship, SARS-CoV-2 Virus-Host Interactions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow with strong interests in virus-host interactions and how they affect virulence and transmissibility. The primary research focus of our laboratory is host-virus interaction of positive-stranded RNA viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, and rapid identification and characterization of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC). The successful candidate will lead the development and analysis of SARS-CoV-2 molecular clones and the application of virological approaches to analyze mutant viruses and identify mutations impacting the pathogenesis and transmissibility of VOCs. This will involve both independent and group work and engagement in collaborative projects. This research is a collaboration between the laboratories of Drs. Wilson and Flazarnao and is funded by CoVaRR-Net. Membership in CoVaRR-Net will provide opportunities for interaction and collaboration with other labs within the network.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This is a one-year post-doctoral opportunity to support Dr. Sherry Pictou, supervisor, in a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair research program in Indigenous Governance with a focus on gender roles in Indigenous Ocean/water governance, supported by the Ocean, Economy and Livelihood projects in the Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus Program. The aim of this position is making a significant contribution to Indigenous Ocean/Water Governance (aquatic and marine). This will be achieved by applying an Indigenous gender lens in ocean and water governance. The focus will include Mi’kmaw/Indigenous ocean/water governance from ancestral to current times. This fellowship provides the opportunity to work on the links between Indigenous knowledge and rights, environmental social science and policy, applying academic research and theory to support Indigenous communities, and Indigenous women and gender diverse persons in particular, both in Canada and globally. In addition, the research fellow will assist in engaging national and global policy makers to ensure Indigenous local socioeconomic contexts are reflected in Ocean/water governance.

A postdoctoral fellow (PDF) position is open in the School of Social Work, Faculty of Health, Dalhousie University to support Dr. Haorui Wu, Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Resilience, on an umbrella research project entitled: Building a Culture of Community Resilience. The PDF will assist with various research projects, examining climate change and disasters’ diverse impacts across Canada and beyond, with an emphasis on health and well-being of humans and other-than-human co-inhabitants. These projects include (1) environmental health, occupational health, mental health, social determinants of health, and human-animal welfare in disaster settings; (2) disaster education development in Canada; and (3) community-based climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction efforts and resident-driven vulnerability reduction. Job responsibilities include both qualitative and quantitative research design, implementation, data analysis and data management. Depending on qualifications, the research activities could consist of stakeholder engagement, creating spatial visualizations of data in ArcGIS, drafting policy briefs, developing surveys/questionnaires in Qualtrics, etc.
