3. Fully Funded PhD Position in biology
Summary of PhD Program:
The goal of the PhD project is to provide the first thorough investigation of how biological compasses, that guide insects in their movements across the globe, are adapted to different visual environments, with a focus on neuronal adaptations. Fundamental differences between different types of environments include light levels, amount of direct sun light and type of terrain. The outcome of this project will allows us to develop optimized models of visual orientation mechanisms for different visual habitats. Such models can used to inspire effective guidance strategies for autonomous robots navigating through natural environments.
Application Deadline: 08.Sep.2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in theoretical computer science and/or combinatorial optimization
Summary of PhD Program:
The MIAO research group has a unique profile in that we are doing cutting-edge research both on the mathematical foundations of efficient computation and on state-of-the-art practical algorithms for real-world problems. This creates a very special environment, where we do not only conduct in-depth research on different theoretical and applied topics, but where different lines of research cross-fertilise each other and unexpected and exciting synergies often arise. Much of the activities of the group revolve around powerful algorithmic paradigms such as, e.g., Boolean satisfiability (SAT) solving, Gröbner basis computations, integer linear programming, and constraint programming.
Application Deadline: 06.Sep.2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in biology
Summary of PhD Program:
The project is founded in landscape ecotoxicology and pollinator conservation. It involves field work surveying pollinators and plants, collecting environmental samples and working with sentinel bumble bee colonies in agricultrual landscape as well as analysing the collected data statistically and developing pesticide risk indicators. The project also involves contact and communication with a range of stakeholders, including farmers to work on their land, advisors and national and European authorities to support the risk assessment of pesticides and the conservation of pollinators and a network of academics from different diciplines involved in the PollinERA project.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Physical Chemistry
Summary of PhD Program:
The main aim of this project is to identify synthetic counterparts for bio-materials and investigate how we can implement their properties to achieve, e.g., synthetic platelets and synthetic red blood cells (RBCs). These colloids will be used to generate a prototype of synthetic blood. Furthermore, the general understanding of the role of particle deformation on the flow properties of concentrated solutions, will help the understanding of blood diseases connected to the deformation of RBCs and the changes in the blood rheology (sickle cell disease), or to the changes in the blood viscosity due to an excess of RBCs (polycythemia).
Application Deadline: 31.Aug.2024
7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Aerosol Technology: in-situ measurements of particle surface and bulk composition
Summary of PhD Program:
cThe Phd position is hosted by the division of Ergonomics & Aerosol Technology (EAT), Department of Design Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Lund University. The research focus of the aerosol group at EAT is on emissions and health effects of aerosols. The research conducted is typically multi-disciplinary and performed in close collaboration with researchers in various subject disciplines such as atmospheric science, toxicology and epidemiology, with access to internationally leading laboratories. The division actively works on maintaining an environment where openness, teamwork, and support amongst the collegium is highly valued.
Application Deadline: 31.Aug.2024
8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mathematical Statistics with a focus on Sonar Signal Processing
Summary of PhD Program:
The project is implemented within Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems.
Application Deadline: 31.Aug.2024
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electrical Engineering focusing on future wireless systems
Summary of PhD Program:
While the doctoral student in this project will focus primarily on theoretical and simulation studies, it will be done in alongside and in cooperation with other doctoral students and senior researchers focusing on, e.g., hardware implementation and channel measurements. This allows the theoretical and simulation studies to be made highly relevant and have an impact on how future wireless systems are designed.
Application Deadline: 30.Aug.2024
10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electrical Engineering focusing on algorithms for 6G Systems
Summary of PhD Program:
Large Intelligent Surface (LIS) is a candidate technology for 6G which extends the concept of Massive MIMO by densely packing antennas throughout whole surfaces. Practical implementations LIS may consist of distributed panels which should be jointly coordinated. Due to the large number of antennas/panels, developing algorithms to suitably process the data to/from all these antennas/panels becomes crucial. You will work in the area of algorithmic research and development for decentralized processing within this context.
