The overarching goal is to help developing a digital medical device App for women in or after menopause. The App will work with data from a smart tracker to drive statistical machine learning models to produce personalized risk assessments of chronic disease development and will issue early warnings (red flags) of potential respiratory tract infections (e.g. common colds, flu, COVID-19), ideally before symptoms begin. The aim of the PhD project is to study the role of life cycle variation on morphological diversity at a recent and fine-grained scale (populational level) using species displaying a wide geographic distribution and differing in life cycle types. To do so, the PhD student will compare different European populations of several species with different life cycles and with a wide geographical distribution. These species show a gradient in life cycle variation with most of them having the incredible capacity to have two different types of life cycles (the Alpine newt, the fire salamander, the palmate newt, and the crested newt). As species with complex life cycles change their environment from the larval to the adult stage, they provide an excellent model to test the capacity of an organism to adapt to environmental changes by producing morphological variation in response to this challenge (evolvability). OncoProTools is an MSCA Doctoral Network that is currently starting up. The mission of OncoProTools is to develop tumor targeting strategies for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, to make them more effective, selective, patient-friendly and personalized. Tumor targeted diagnostics and therapeutics are molecules that are typically equipped with a vector unit. The vector unit binds to a protein that is overexpressed on cancer cells or in the Tumor Micro-Environment (TME), causing the diagnostic or therapeutic payload to accumulate in the tumor. Exciting, recent innovations rely on small molecule vectors that target TME proteases. Proteases are ideal candidates for tumor targeting: they are often strongly overexpressed in the TME and possess an active site that allows high-affinity anchoring of vectors.
