6. Fully Funded PhD Position in data driven predictive control for smart buildings
Summary of PhD Program:
New technologies for signal processing and control have great potential to increase efficiency of smart buildings. It could be to save energy, increase living comfort, reduce maintenance, or improve management. In this project we will in particular study and develop modern data driven predictive control algorithms. These methods rely on a mix of linear systems theory, optimization, and machine learning. They have proven to be efficient for complex systems with time varying dynamics.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in multimodal data-driven urban mobility management
Summary of PhD Program:
In this project, you will have the opportunity to explore multimodal mobility patterns in the Stockholm region using various data sources such as GPS, highway microwave sensors, toll portals, e-scooters, mobile phones, and public transport smart card data. You will use data-driven analytics, choice modeling, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and simulation to unveil the understanding of typical multimodal travel patterns and their relationships during various events, traffic incidents, and public transport disruptions. All this will lead to a multimodal predictive framework essential for pro-active scenario-based multimodal traffic management.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in DMDU for Transport Planning
Summary of PhD Program:
The Decision Making Under Deep Uncertainties (DMDU) project aims to shift the paradigm from a traditional ‘predict-then-act’ model, which optimizes based on a single ‘best-guess’ future (forecast), to a model that stress-tests plans to minimize regrets across a spectrum of potential scenarios (foresight). It will develop the DMDU tool with AI/machine learning data analytics that supports the development of a socio-economically efficient transport system, particularly in a long-distance planning context in Sweden.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Electricity market optimization
Summary of PhD Program:
European states (and Sweden) are working toward a sustainable intermittent renewable future. This green vision has brought about several important challenges. One of the major challenges is the increasing complexity in the Day-Ahead Electricity Market (DAM) model. First, the Market Time Unit (MTU) is planned to be reduced from 1 hour to 15 minutes. This roughly means an optimization model four times larger than what we have now. Second, the type and number of nonconvex orders are expected to increase by growing share of intermittent renewable generation. This in turn creates increasing complexity in calculating uniform prices. Third, Joint optimization of energy and balancing reserves in the day-ahead market which requires innovate algorithms to solve the DAM model.
Application Deadline: 02.May.2024
12. Fully Funded PhD Position in Software Supply Chain Security

It incorporates foundational frameworks, novel abstractions combining static and dynamic techniques, and human-in-the-loop feedback with AI-driven prioritization metrics. The doctoral student will conduct research in developing foundational models and scalable code-centric analysis for a range of vulnerability classes, including code injection, sensitive information disclosure, insecure deserialization and more. They will explore a range of technologies including taint analysis, code property graphs, program slicing, and runtime monitoring.

14. Fully Funded PhD Position in Space Physics for studies of Jupiter moon Io
Summary of PhD Program:
Jupiter moon Io is the most volcanically active world in the Solar System. It is the main source of material for Jupiter’s vast magnetosphere, but the processes for the material transport from Io to the environment are not fully understood and the putative variability of Io’s mass loss is puzzling. In the project, the student will analyze observations of Io’s atmosphere and surface taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope. In addition, we will study the plasma environment through measurements near Io by the NASA Juno spacecraft. In combination with modelling, the project will address the questions of the mass loss from Io and its atmosphere to Jupiter’s magnetosphere.

15. Fully Funded PhD Position in Molecular simulation of wetting
Summary of PhD Program:
The energetics and dynamics of wetting are of high interest from both fundamental scientific and technological points of view. Often the macroscopic behavior of wetting is dominated by processes at molecular scale at the interface. Here in particular the three-phase contact line is of importance, where substrate, liquid and gas (or another liquid) meet. The scales involved can not be observed directly in experiments. Atomistic molecular dynamics simulations can provide the required spatial and time resolutions. In this project will study how mixtures of two liquids or a liquid plus surfactant wet surfaces. The surfaces can be simple or have molecules attached to them that react to the liquid. In experiments non-trivial behavior has been observed.
