1. PhD Position in understanding the current state of cybersecurity with the help of macro and micro level indicators
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD project focuses on designing socio-economic measurement tools and developing metrics for security variables. The aim is to measure security effectiveness based on the outcome (being compromised as an organization or not) which is in itself very hard to measure, developing metrics for effectiveness of actions, controls, or measures against the event of being hacked. This inturn will aid managers with making security investment decisions.

2. PhD Position in Federated Monitoring and Automated Response
Summary of PhD Program:
The Twente University Centre for Cybersecurity Research has a vacancy for a PhD Position in Federated Monitoring and Automated Response. Real-time monitoring is essential for threat detection and response. Many different monitoring approaches have been proposed in the state-of-the-art and several tools are available on the market. However, the complexity and dynamism of modern distributed environments pose a critical challenge to such tools, which are limited in terms of scalability and visibility. Additionally, in such distributed architectures it is crucial to correlate observed insights (e.g., indicators of compromise) to track lateral movement.

3. PhD Position in CHIRALFORCE
Summary of PhD Program:
The Mesoscale Chemical Systems (MCS) group has a vacancy for a PhD student to work on microfluidics for the separation of enantiomers. Separating enantiomers is crucial to produce bio-active molecules, e.g., in early-phase drug discovery. The project aims at a radically new strategy to separate enantiomers on chip, using chiral optical forces at silicon-based optical waveguides and integration with microfluidics. The proposed method has the promise to be quick, tunable, and cheap. The focus of the PhD student in the MCS group will be on the design, fabrication, and testing of the microfluidic parts of the chip, which eventually will be monolithically integrated with the photonic components developed by one of the partner institutions in the project.

6. PhD Position in Predicting Efficacy of neuromodulation in epilepsy
Summary of PhD Program:
In patients with medically refractory epilepsy vagus nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation are possible treatment options. While effective in several patients, about 30-50% of patients do not respond favorably to this treatment. This project aims to identify novel biomarkers to predict the success of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) using ultra-long (up to more than a year) EEG measurements with a subcutaneous electrode (© UNEEG). This is complemented with (functional) MRI and high-density EEG recordings. Patients who are candidates for VNS will be implanted with the UNEEG device 2 months before implantation of the VNS. Treatment effects will be evaluated with the UNEEG electrode, complemented with diaries and questionnaires regarding epilepsy related symptoms.

12. PhD Position in In-Situ Pellicle Exposure and Transmission
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a motivated and skilled PhD researcher to investigate the physical and chemical degradation processes of novel ultra-thin freestanding films. These transparent membranes are used as protective transparent windows (‘pellicles’) in EUV photolithography, where they are placed just above the sensitive photomask to prevent its contamination by particles. The membranes need to resist not only thermo-mechanical stresses, but also surface degradation by EUV photon induced chemical reactions, bombardment by low energetic ions, and chemical etching by radicals. The aim of the project is to develop fundamental knowledge on the film EUV-induced degradation mechanisms and find materials and processes that can mitigate pellicle damage.
