4. PhD student position in virtual predictions of sensor soiling

Summary of Doctoral Project:

In this project, we will speed up virtual predictions of sensor soiling by applying the so-called rCFD method. This method uses a minimal database of highly resolved simulation data to time-extrapolate the aerodynamic process in a very efficient way. In other applications, rCFD has been shown to improve simulation times by several orders of magnitude while maintaining acceptable accuracy. Our ambition is here to develop an experimentally validated rCFD methodology for virtual predictions of sensor soiling in automotive applications. The work will comprise high-fidelity simulations of vehicle aerodynamics, both for simplified test objects and for real vehicles, as well as experimental validation tests, plus implementation and optimization of the rCFD method for the current class of problems.

8. PhD student position in Food Science – Alternative proteins and 3D food printing

Summary of Doctoral Project:

A shift toward production and consumption of foods with lower environmental impacts such as plant (green) and aquatic (blue) foods is necessary to promote sustainability of our food system. This transition is hindered by e.g., low efficiency in their production, extensively purified ingredients, unfavorable nutrients and taste of plant proteins, overpressure on aquatic resources, low diversity of plant alternatives and low attractability for consumer toward them. The FORMAS funded project called 3DMIX has gathered competences at Chalmers and Lund Universities and several food companies to address these issues. 3DMIX aims to benefit from the advantages of both green and blue resources to solve their respective drawbacks by integrating them into mixtures sharing advantages of each source. In this new approach, protein-rich functional fractions from agricultural side streams and underutilized aquatic resources will be precisely mixed and then formulated to healthy and hybrid personalized foods via high moisture extrusion and 3D food printing.

10. PhD students in Quantum Nanophotonics

Summary of Doctoral Project:

Our approach to quantum computing uses high-fidelity cryogenic microwave qubits. However, it is currently impossible to connect the qubits well beyond a single refrigerator while preserving their fragile quantum properties – creating major challenges in scaling. Optical photons, with their long-distance and near-noiseless propagation along room-temperature fibers, are uniquely placed to tackle this challenge. We will study nanophotonic devices to connect several smaller quantum processors into a large quantum computer. Doing so, we will establish a new interdisciplinary team in photonics and quantum engineering.

11. PhD student position in Innovation Leadership

Summary of Doctoral Project:

We are now looking to recruit a PhD student in innovation leadership. The field of research lies in the intersection between leadership studies and innovation management, with a specific focus on the construction industry in Sweden. This industry is ongoingly berated for its lacking performance. A succession of governmental reports and research have concluded that the industry suffers from excessive production costs, low efficiency, slow delivery, unsafe workplaces, and failure to innovate, among other things. While the various stakeholders recognize the urgent need to address these shortcomings, transformation and change have remained slow and disappointing. Leadership research has established a convincing correlation between leadership and successful change on group-, organizational-, and industry levels. Despite these promises, the relation and role of leadership as a potentially central ingredient for change in the construction industry remains largely unexplored.

13. PhD student position in Formal Verification of Smart Contracts

Summary of Doctoral Project:

The Automation Group, within the Department of Electrical Engineering conducts research on formal verification of safety and security of smart contracts. Smart contracts are computer programs that change the way future business and trade are executed. The smart contracts are openly stored and executed in a blockchain ecosystem, enforcing a contractual agreement between mutually distrusting users, including the exchange of crypto currencies. An important feature of smart contracts is that once they are deployed on the blockchain they cannot be changed. Smart contracts successfully address the problem of guaranteeing the execution of agreements in a setting where parties neither need to trust each other, nor do they need to involve a third party (like bank, layer, or authority). At the same time, they provide a surface for security attacks.

24. PhD student position in Design: Enabling re-use in Swedish households

Summary of Doctoral Project:

The position is tied to the project “Mining Garage Gold – exploring and expanding the potentials for increased reuse in Swedish households”.
