1. Multiple Fully Funded PhD Position in Health and Biosciences
Summary of PhD Program:
HBS-DP funds doctoral research in the following doctoral degree programmes: medicine, biochemistry and molecular medicine, dentistry, and health sciences. In the current call, short-term doctoral researcher positions ranging from 3 to 6 months will be available for the year 2025 (up to 5 person-years in total). These doctoral researcher positions are primarily intended for doctoral researchers working as professionals in healthcare with the degree of Licentiate of Medicine, Licentiate of Dentistry or Master of Health Sciences. The positions are fixed-term for 3 to 6 months starting earliest on 1.1.2025 and ending at the latest on 31.12.2025.
Application Deadline: 31.Aug.2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in carbonation of magnesium silicates
Summary of PhD Program:
This position is a part of European Doctoral Training Network project CONTRABASS (DC Project 2 – “carbonation of magnesium silicates and synergy with calcium silicates”). Cement is one of the biggest polluters and responsible for 8% of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions. At the same time, cement offers an optimal carbon capture and storage (CCU) opportunity due to massive volumes and favourable chemistry.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational materials science and modelling, density functional theory and quantum computing
Summary of PhD Program:
One part of the profilation theme is to develop next-generation computational tools and methods under the concept ‘Towards quantum computing use-cases in material sciences and modelling’. Increasingly more quantum computing resources have been built nationally and internationally. Also quantum algorithms, programming languages and software kits are rapidly developing.
Here we build a practical research cycle which first takes promising quantum computing use-cases within the H2FUTURE theme, e.g. in molecular & atomistic modelling, photocatalysis, process optimization or phase transitions in materials, then applies suitable classical and quantum methods and tools to them, and finally implements them on classical supercomputers and online quantum computers and benchmarks the results.
Application Deadline: 19.May.2024
4. 10 Fully Funded PhD Position in Microelectronics pilot training
Summary of PhD Program:
We are now looking for 10 Doctoral Researchers to join us in the doctoral pilot program. The doctoral school pilot program for Microelectronics in Finland (MIELi) is coordinated by Tampere University and gathers together three Finnish universities with research activities in microelectronics design and development. The MIELi consortium is part of the Microelectronic Finland consortium, including academia and industry.
Application Deadline: 15.May.2024
5. 03 Fully Funded PhD Position in FRONT research programme
Summary of PhD Program:
The FRONT research programme forms a part of our national profiling actions supported by the Research Council of Finland. FRONT focuses on changing human-environment relations and challenges to cope and adapt with that change and aims to ground-breaking transdisciplinary research on resilience and how to ‘Adapt for Our Future’ in the Arctic and elsewhere on the planet. The programme involves cutting-edge research to advance the existing frontiers of knowledge on the systemic changes needed for resilience planning and governance, and for finding solutions to the wicked problems of resilience across the social and environmental sciences.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Process Metallurgy, Faculty of Technology
Summary of PhD Program:
The doctoral researcher will work on the project Simulation, Modelling and Monitoring of Plasma and Arc Based Processes for Green Metal Production – PlasmArc4Green. The aim of the PlasmArc4Green is to develop digitalization methods for plasma-based processes that are relevant for the transformation towards CO2 neutral metal production. Specifically, development of new measurement techniques and numerical simulations of arc dynamics for better process control are in the core of the project. Testing and validation of the various methods will be demonstrated with lab-scale and pilot-scale hydrogen plasma smelting reduction (HPSR) experiments.
Application Deadline: 15.May.2024
7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Structural Engineering
Summary of PhD Program:
The position includes working on research projects that aim to develop methodologies to utilize physics-based simulation technology for designing sustainable engineering structures. The developed models are typically based on the theory of elasticity or plasticity and the applied methods range from the finite element method (FEM) to explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). In addition, understanding the principles of verification, validation and uncertainty quantification related to engineering decision-making process is of utmost importance (simulation governance). Moreover, achieving robust interoperability is essential for efficient collaboration and accurate data exchange within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.
Application Deadline: 05.May.2024
8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Catalysts design for C1 chemicals production reactions
Summary of PhD Program:
The successful candidate is expected to conduct high-level scientific research related to heterogeneous catalyst design, manufacturing, characterizations, and testing those to produce C1-chemicals and other products from CO2 via the green reaction routes using e.g., reverse water gas shift reaction (RWGS). The main tasks are to find, define, and plan the green reaction routes from CO2 to green products using the developed homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, as well participation in results dissemination.
