The position is associated with the Norwegian ALICE project at CERN, funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The heavy-ion group of the Department of Physics, University of Oslo, participates in the ALICE experiment, which in 2022 will enter the third round of data taking with ultrarelativistic pp, Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (LHC Run-3), after comprehensive upgrades improving tracking performance and readout speed. “ITOM – Integrated technologies for tracking organoid/gastruloid morphogenesis”. Embryonic stem (ES) cell technology has allowed to develop organoid/gastruloids that show features of organ induction, but lack further maturation and show large variations. The overall objective of the project is to develop better statistical methodology for trustworthy evaluation of cancer treatments from registry data in order to support decision makers when forming official clinical guidelines. A central theme in this project is to use available data to model properly randomized clinical trials where we can more easily identify treatment effects. This strategy will rely heavily on established causal inference methodology, but since we mostly consider time-to-event data, we will develop new methodology based on counting process and stochastic differential equations.

Summary of Doctoral Project:
The candidate will be part of TIK’s research group in Innovation Studies and is expected to contribute actively and productively to the research in the INTRANSIT center. The candidate will be part of INTRANSIT’s research stream “research and innovation policy for sustainability and industry transformations”. The research will focus on Norwegian and/or comparative studies of science, technology and innovation policies. The specific design of the PhD project, such as the choice of case, methods and theoretical framework, will depend on the candidate’s academic background and project proposal, and will be developed together with the project leader. The research fellow must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD programme and are expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Summary of Doctoral Project:
The project EMPOWER: Sustainable Batteries in Mobility – (Em)powering a Net-zero Energy Transition has been recently funded by UiO:Energy Convergence Environments and will run in the period 2022-2027. EMPOWER takes interdisciplinary research and education perspective to investigate the role of electric vehicle batteries (EV) in enabling a sustainable net-zero energy transition in Norway. The project is recruiting three doctoral and three postdoctoral research fellows to conduct research with the different faculties involved in the project. EMPOWER offers early career scientists an inspiring interdisciplinary research and education environment. Summary of Doctoral Project:
The successful candidate will start on the 1st September 2022 at the latest. The candidate will be part of the project’s team, and will have the possibility to participate in the Practical Philosophy Group, the Oslo School of Environmental Humanities, and the Centre for Philosophy and the Sciences.
