Eligibility Criteria

  • Domestic and international students are eligible to apply for four-year fellowships. Fellowships are generally available to students in their first year of PhD studies, but they may also be available to continuing PhD students.
  • Enrollment in a UBC doctoral program that is eligible for Tri-Council funding.
  • A minimum of 90% average in each of the last two years of study, or a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 (or equivalent) in a master’s program.
  • Completion of no more than 24 months of doctoral studies as of the start date of the fellowship.
  • Not have previously held a doctoral-level scholarship from the Canadian Tri-Agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) or a 4YF.
  • Have applied for, or be currently holding, an eligible fellowship such as a Vanier CGS or CIHR Doctoral Research Award (if applicable).
  • Be conducting research in one of the following areas: Arts and Humanities, Applied Science, Education, Forestry, Information, Land and Food Systems, Medicine, Science, or Social Sciences.
