The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies created these scholarships to enable graduates to pursue education beneficial to the Muslim world.

100% of the course fees and a stipend for living expenses (at least £17,668) will be covered by the scholarship. Awards are given for the entirety of your price obligation for the specified course. Awards may be given in conjunction with other funding sources, however this will be considered when calculating the award’s worth.

Scholarship Coverage

Eligibility Criteria

You must be requesting admission to Oxford for a brand-new, full-time master’s or DPhil programme.

You either need to be:

normally residing in the UK and being a member of the Muslim community (with priority being given to those coming from low-income families),

• a national of, and ordinarily resident in, Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

After your course is over, you should plan to return to your country of permanent residency.

Scholarships will be given out based on academic achievement.

You should have the intention to pursue a course of study in a subject that has roots in, is relevant to, or somehow relates to Islam, the Muslim world, or both.

Candidates applying for postgraduate certificate or diploma programmes, part-time courses, or non-matriculated programmes are not eligible for this grant.

The scholarship application of candidates with postponed offers to begin in 2023–24 will not be taken into consideration.

Required Documents

• The actions listed below must be taken in order for your application to be considered for this scholarship:
• In the University of Oxford Scholarships part of the graduate application form, check the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarship box;
• Apply for graduate school by the applicable December/January deadline. The due date for your course may be found on the appropriate course website; and
• Fill out a supporting statement for the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies scholarships (see linked materials on this page) and submit it with your graduate application form before the deadline.
• We will evaluate your nationality and country of usual residence based on the information you provide on the graduate application form. Please refer to the graduate application form’s ‘Nationality and ordinary residence’ part and the guidance provided in the Application Guide for a definition of “ordinary residence” as well as more information on how to complete this area.
• Applicants must successfully receive an offer of a spot on their programme once applications submitted by the pertinent December/January deadline have been taken into account. Scholarships will not be given consideration for course applications that are placed on a waiting list, are held over after the December/January deadline, or are reevaluated against applications submitted by the March deadline.

How do I apply?

1.    Applications for 2023 entry are now closed.  Details on how to apply for 2024 entry will be made available on this page in January 2024.

2.    For 2023 entry applicants who applied by the 8 February 2023 scholarship deadline, the selection process will be undertaken in March 2023.

3.    Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application in May 2024.
