1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Sustainability Science
Summary of PhD Program:
The project aims to investigate potential national food consumption pathways (mainly for Sweden) under different futures scenarios with the objective to identify critical features for securing sustainable and healthy diets in both turbulent and stable futures. The project has a strong quantitative emphasis involving data analysis in combination with agent-based social simulation approaches.
Application Deadline: 8 September 2024
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Sustainability Science
Summary of PhD Program:
We seek a PhD candidate to join the project TRANSMOD – “Building models of, with and for sustainability transformations” funded by an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC). The project studies why and how transformative change emerges (or not). It does so from two theoretical perspectives: a complex adaptive systems (CAS) and a process-relational perspective (PRP). By bringing these together, we aim to better account for the complex, entangled, social-ecological and political nature of transformations.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Sustainability Science
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD position will study transformative change from a process-relational perspective. PRP ground research on the assumption that reality is in constant becoming. The candidate will study how this becoming unfolds and generates potential for transformative change. The focus will be on the notion of attractors which is key for understanding change. We are interested in how to 1) conceptualize social-ecological attractors from a PRP drawing on scholarship such as (but not exclusively) agential realism (Barad) or assemblage theory (Deleuze/DeLanda); and how to 2) design and carry out corresponding empirical research for enhancing our understanding of how such attractors influence social-ecological transformations.
Application Deadline: 8 September 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Sustainability Science
Summary of PhD Program:
The research project will develop alternative pathways to food futures in Sweden, under different futures scenarios, with the objective to identify critical features for securing sustainable and healthy diets in both turbulent and stable futures. The project mixes quantitative and qualitative methods based on a participatory modeling approach, where a model of the future Swedish food systems is co-created with stakeholders to facilitate joint learning and engaging them in a critical discussion on how technology, policy, and values define the possible pathways for a future Swedish food system.
