3. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in modelling of organoid/gastruloid morphogenesis

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A three-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at The Njord Centre. The purpose of the possition is to develop a theoretical understanding and computational models of development principles in organoid/gastruloid morphogenesis. No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Starting date as soon as possible. The position is part of the UiO: Life Science convergence environment “Integrated technologies for tracking organoid/gastruloid morphogenesis” (ITOM). Embryonic stem cell (ESC) technology has allowed the development of organoids/gastruloids that show features of organ induction but lack further maturation and show large variations. The field, therefore, requires high-content tracking tools and algorithms to guide organoid/gastruloid development. The project will use advanced correlative imaging technologies and data analysis to guide the differentiation of ESC-derived organoids/gastruloids. The ITOM project unites three different Centres of Excellence in the Oslo area: HTH-CoE, Njord-CoE, and RITMO-CoE. As such, the candidate will be part of a large and closely interacting interdisciplinary team of basic scientists, developmental biologists, chemists, physicists, computational scientists, and rhythm researchers.

4. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medieval History/Literature

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoctoral fellow will principally be expected to extend the transhistorical dimension of the project, by pursuing research related to the narrative hierarchies of a non-Byzantine medieval historical tradition. Researchers are expected to share their chronological focus with the project (c. 1200 – c. 1460), but their field of specialisation within medieval history/literature is entirely open. The postdoctoral fellow’s primary responsibility will be to research and write at least two journal articles. Prospective candidates are asked to clearly articulate the topics on which they intend to work in their project description. Candidates will not be expected to apply a rigid ‘project methodology’, but are encouraged to elaborate how their proposed research speaks to the research questions and transhistorical agenda of the project. Proposals should explicitly relate to questions of narrative/narrative theory, gender, hierarchies, subalternity, or non-elite counterpower.

5. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Marine biodiversity and Machine Learning

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This position is part of a collaborative marine research and training program with a focus on the Skagerrak, Kattegat and Oslofjord (SKO) region to improve marine sustainability and our understanding of the pelagic ecosystem and food-web dynamics in the coastal zone where land and open sea meet. This program aligns with UN sustainability goals considering that the declining fish stocks in SKO will be under scrutiny, as well as the multiple anthropogenic stressors affecting water quality, human recreation and marine life. The project is interdisciplinary, joining a range of key institutions (University of Oslo, Norwegian University for Life Sciences, Norwegian Institute for Water Research, University of Agder, Institute of Marine Research, Norwegian Meteorological Institute) and is embedded in the ongoing strategic institutional SKO initiative. The SKO program at UiO comprises the Departments of Biosciences, Geology, Mathematics and Informatics, and three other positions are also available.

9. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in comparative immunology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position is associated with the Comparative Immunology Group in the Section of Physiology at IBV. The group works closely with scientists in the Department of Immunology, Oslo University Hospital – Rikshospitalet, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and at the Centre of Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES) at IBV, and seeks to understand host responses and protective immunity in vertebrates with “unusual” immunogenomes. While the adaptive immune system encompassing B cells, T cells and MHC class I and class II loci is shared among all jawed vertebrates, Atlantic cod and other codfishes specifically lost the MHC class II locus and CD4+ T cells approximately 100 mya. In other vertebrates (including most other fishes), the MHC II – CD4 axis is required for strong antibody responses and vaccine efficacy. Recently, whole genome sequencing has added more teleosts to the list of vertebrates with unusual immunogenomes.

10. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cancer Cell Biology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The candidate for this position will work on a project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society. In this project, we aim to unravel the role of the endoplasmic reticulum-focal adhesions contact sites in transducing external cues to the nucleus, leading to altered gene expression, and how this is coupled with the development of the cancer cell invasive ability during cancer progression. To achieve this, the project will make use of RNAi screens and advanced imaging techniques such as super-resolution and live imaging. Our group has access to the National imaging platform NorMIC Oslo, with a wide range of state-of-the-art imaging equipment. The Department of Biosciences harbors also an EM-lab, the Norwegian Sequencing Centre (NSC) and Proteomics services.

11. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Batteries and Sustainable Futures

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The responsibility of this Postdoc fellow in Batteries and Sustainable Futures will be to develop a sustainability framework for EMPOWER, with a focus on the EV battery life cycle and future battery use. It will take a regulatory ecology perspective, a systems approach to investigate the interactions between four modes of regulation: the design and architecture of batteries, the laws and directives regulating batteries, the market of mobility batteries (new and second-life ones), and social norms of battery use, now and in the future. This integrative approach will support the creation of a common language in the project, strengthening our collaboration and enable interdisciplinary outcomes. This interdisciplinary work will be further enhanced by integrative mapping exercises, in which EMPOWER participants engage in a participatory mapping of project results and analysis. Secondly, informed by the EV battery life cycle, this research will involve youth in designing and exploring future sustainable transport solutions. The following research questions will be addressed by the Postdoc Fellow: 1) What are the social and environmental impacts in the EV battery life cycle? and 2) How do youth envision their future sustainable transportation?
