1. Postdoctoral position on attention and decision making at Aarhus University
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
This project is a ‘Sapere Aude’ excellence grant funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and will combine theories from vision science and decision making, to develop and test a model of visual search in decision making. Existing theories fail to completely explain empirical data on consumer visual search. To address this gap, we will assume that consumers behave according to animal foraging principles when deciding whether to stop searching. Guided by these principles, we have thus far developed a model which predicts that consumers stop searching in a way that maximizes the ratio of search gain to search cost.

8. Postdoc for Phase-Change Materials Research with Ultrafast X-rays
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The goal of the project is to advance the understanding of liquid phase transition behaviors in the supercooled liquid state (“no-man’s land”) of Phase-Change Materials using X-ray free electron lasers (XFEL), synchrotron X-ray scattering, and thermodynamic studies. 10. Postdoctoral position: How do LPMO enzymes attack crystalline polysaccharide surfaces in the degradation of biomass?
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The capacity of biofuels to make a significant contribution to sustainability depends on ways to overcome the recalcitrance of abundant and widespread polysaccharides, most notably cellulose. Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase enzymes (LPMOs) can attack such recalcitrant polysaccharides, improving the efficiency of canonical commercialized mixtures of hydrolytic enzymes to depolymerize biomass efficiently. Important progress awaits molecular structural insight into LPMO action and deactivation. This will be obtained in the proposed project: innovations affording ultrafast spinning now allow solid-state NMR spectroscopy to probe polymeric and crystalline polysaccharide surfaces and provide the structural details of how LPMO proteins are bound to them, breaking a principal barrier.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project Artistic Practice under Contemporary Conditions is a theoretical and analytical investigation of the relationship between artistic practice and the socio-political context in which it takes place. 20. Postdoctoral position in the ‘Collective Blindness’ research project
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project is funded by Aarhus University Research Foundation and will examine how social groups can bias individuals to ignore factual information, such as in climate change denial and anti-vaxxing. This tendency, called motivated blindness, has been studied in individuals, but not in groups, although climate change denial and anti-vaxxing cases suggest a need for such research. In this project, we wish to understand how entire groups can become blind to important information i.e., collective blindness. The nature of the question spans micro and macro levels of social science and to fully explore it, we aim to establish a research topic on collective blindness and develop the first computational model of collective blindness through methods that integrate cognitive science and complex systems research.

21. Postdoc in infection biology and neuroscience
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Virus infections in the brain can cause acute disease (encephalitis) and prime for longterm pathologies (e.g. neurodegenerative diseases). Therefore, the brain needs to have efficient antiviral mechanisms in place to restrict virus replication. Currently, there is limited knowledge on how neurons and glial cells control virus infections without activating inflammatory activities, which can also cause pathology. To identify novel mechanisms of cell-autonomous antiviral activity in neurons, we will use genome-wide CRISPR screens and neuron cell models. Focus will be on neurotropic herpesviruses. Identified candidates will be mechanistically characterized, and experimentally tested in mice and organoid systems.
