About Career & Technical Scholarships
The Career & Technical Scholarship Program is funded through the generosity of Horatio Alger Association Members, Dennis R. Washington and Jim F. Dicke II.
Scholarships are awarded to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.
The Horatio Alger Scholarship 2024-2025 is a fully funded undergraduate scholarship for students in the United States. This scholarship is worth $2,500.00. It is given to 500 candidates who want to attend college in the United States.
Funds may be used for any costs associated with earning a degree/certificate including, but not limited to: tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and other personal expenses. All scholarship funds are paid directly to the institution on behalf of the recipient.

As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives.
The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders. The National Scholarship is awarded to eligible students in all fifty states, and the District of Columbia.
National Scholars receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of their senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.

Career & Technical Scholarships Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for the Career & Technical Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have completed high school (or earned a high school equivalency credential)
- Cannot be taking pre-requisite courses and must be enrolled in your program Must be enrolled full-time by Fall 2023 to be eligible.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program (up to 2 years) at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
- Demonstrated critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
- Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Be under the age of 30
- Be a United States citizen

What is the deadline for submitting my application?
The Horatio Alger Career & Technical Education Scholarship application will open in March with a rolling selection process that will award the first round of scholarships by July. Should spaces remain, the application will remain open until all scholarships are awarded. Please refer to the CTE Scholarship page to confirm the current application status.
I missed the deadline, may I still apply?
The Career & Technical Education Scholarships will award up to 500 scholarships. Check the scholarship page to verify if there are scholarships still available.
Who can apply for the Career & Technical Education Scholarship?
To be eligible for the Career & Technical Education Scholarship, applicants must be under the age of 30 at the time of applying. In addition to being a United States citizen, applicants must have earned a high school diploma, high school equivalency credential, or will complete this requirement by the application deadline.
Can I use this scholarship towards a Bachelors or Masters Degree?
No, this scholarship is for scholars pursuing an Associate level or technical degree/certificate (2 year or less program) at a not-for-profit school.
What is the amount of the scholarship?
The scholarship award is up to $2,500. Scholars will fill out a disbursement request each eligible semester where the maximum amount is based on their program length.
Can the scholarship be used for exclusively online degrees?
No, this scholarship does not award exclusive online programs, however if your school has online learning due to covid-19, we will consider your request.
Can the funds be used at a 4 year school?
Scholars attending a not-for-profit, 4 year school will be asked to provide documentation from their school to confirm they are enrolled in an Associate Degree or eligible program. The scholarship does not support 4 year degree programs or for-profit institutions.
