19. Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The post-doctoral candidate will have field supervision, graduate/undergraduate mentoring and research responsibilities in the Literacy and Language Development Clinic (LLDC) project. The project is funded by a Learning Recovery Grant from the Indiana Department of Education. The purpose of the LLDC is to offer an array of service options to individual partnered school populations’ needs and resources in the area of literacy and language development including (a) needs assessment and screening, (b) one-on-one intervention, and (c) teacher release time/whole-class cover through interdisciplinary read alouds. Working in partnership with 4 school districts in Central Indiana, the project aims to: (1) provide English language development support for EL students at different English proficiency and grade levels through language need analysis and small group tutoring, (2) improve Purdue’s pre-service EL teacher preparation, and (3) improve the mentoring experiences between pre-service EL teachers, in-service host teachers, and supervising Purdue instructors in the field experience.

20. Post Doctoral Research Associate (Super Resolution Optical Microscopy)

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Postdoctoral fellow positions are available at the optical super-resolution microscopy lab, directed by Dr. Fang Huang at Purdue University, Department of Biomedical Engineering. The candidates are expected to spearhead innovations related to one of the two areas of research focus: 1. Fluorescence nanoscopy through tissue specimens. We are looking for motivated researchers to develop novel imaging instruments and analytical methods to visualize intra- and extra-cellular structures at the nanoscale in tissues or small animals. In the past, the team developed novel Adaptive Optics and PSF engineering methods to super-resolve brain sections (Nature Methods, 15, 583–586, 2018), deep learning framework for multiplexed single molecule analysis (Nature Methods, 15, 913–916, 2018) and INSPR (in situ PSF retrieval) technology to expand applicability of super-resolution imaging system from cells to tissues (Nature Methods, 17, 531–540, 2020).

The iCAN Lab at Purdue University is recruiting a post-doctoral scholar to support NIH-funded research under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Sarah Karalunas. Research in the iCAN Lab focuses on the cognitive, emotional, and neurophysiological mechanisms that contribute to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in infancy through adulthood. Work in the lab emphasizes individual differences among children with ADHD and integration of multiple data types (e.g., trait ratings, computerized cognitive tasks, EEG, eye tracking, and ecological momentary assessment). The successful candidate will assume a major leadership role for the NIH-funded Neurophysiology of Emotions (NEMO) Study and have opportunities to be involved with and use data from several other large, longitudinal studies of childhood development and clinical outcomes.

The post-doctoral candidate will have instructional and research responsibilities in Leveraging the Lectura y Lenguaje: A Collaborative Scale up of Literacy and Language for ELs in Central Indiana and the Professional and Parental Understanding for Equity in Dual-language Education (PUEDE): An Indiana Scale Up of Dual Language Education. These two projects are funded by a National Professional Development (NPD) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of the Leveraging the Lectura y Lenguaje grant is to increase the overall literacy and English language development capacities of elementary pre- and in-service educators, administrators and family liaisons in Central Indiana. Working in partnership with 4 school districts and a community organization, the project aims to: (1) increase the number of in-service teachers though Purdue’s English Language Learner licensure program, (2) improve Purdue’s pre-service EL teacher preparation, and (3) engage families, schools and community agencies in literacy partnerships, maximizing the role of parents in EL student’s academic achievement and English language learning.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Center on Religion and the Global East (https://globaleast.org) at Purdue University invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral research position starting as early as July 1, 2022, however a late start date can be considered. The position is renewable for a second year. Review of applications will begin on March 15, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. The position is embedded in the funded multi-national project “Global East Religiosity and Changing Religious Landscapes,” which includes surveys of individuals, mapping religious sites, and the comparative historical studies of Christianity in East Asian societies. We are seeking an energetic and independent researcher who can help conduct research on Christianity in Korea from around 1900 until the present-day. To qualify for the position, a candidate must have completed PhD by the time of employment, and the degree may be in sociology, history, political science, geography, religious studies, or related areas. Fluency in Korean and English are required, and knowledge of social surveys and GIS are considered advantageous.
