1. PhD Position in Microsimulation modelling of labour market dynamics

Summary of PhD Program:

This PhD position is sponsored by the UK Department of Work and Pension (DWP) for research on dynamic microsimulation modelling of the UK economy. This is a unique opportunity to carry out research that will (1) significantly advance the academic field of dynamic microsimulation, and (2) be of immediate policy relevance, by contributing to some of the Government’s biggest model development challenges in DWP, improving approaches that underpin multi £bn forecasts of social security benefits expenditure. The successful candidate will engage regularly with both academics and Government officials, and have an opportunity to develop a range of analytical, technical and broader skills.

2. PhD Position in Free clinics and a psychoanalysis for the people

Summary of PhD Program:

The Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex is pleased to announce the availability of a fully-funded three-year doctoral studentship, (starting in January 2023), to work on the project ‘Free Clinics and a Psychoanalysis for the People: Progressive Histories, Collective Practices, Implications for our Times’ (FREEPSY), to be supervised by Raluca Soreanu. FREEPSY is funded by a UKRI Frontier Research Grant (ERC Consolidator Grant guarantee) held by Raluca Soreanu (Essex). It aims to produce a new global figuration of psychoanalysis as a progressive discourse and practice, by tracing the little-known histories of free psychoanalytic clinics. This is an interdisciplinary project spanning from psychosocial studies, to social theory, historical research and arts methods.

3. PhD Position in Dementia – Fundamentals of care

Summary of PhD Program:

This programme explores nurse and allied health professionals providing fundamental care within the wider system with a focus on care and factors influencing delivery focusing on nutrition and hydration, positive relationships, and activities of daily living affecting patient safety in the acute sector. Focus should explore “Time to care” and mental health of the physically unwell as well as the psychological such as privacy, dignity, emotional care, and social interaction and relational (such as empathy, compassion and support).
