1. PhD Position (project researcher or research assistant) in scientific programming and data analysis
Summary of PhD Program:
The Department of Computing at the University of Turku is searching for a project researcher or a research assistant in data science. The starting time is 1.10.2022 or later, as agreed. The duration of this fixed-term position is 24 months. The position is full-time, but part-time work is also possible based on mutual understanding. This position focuses on the development of open data science methods, supporting the international collaborations of the research team in computational humanities and life sciences. The work includes R package development, implementation of statistical data analysis and machine learning pipelines in high-performance computing (HPC) environments, and support tasks in research coordination and teaching. The work is supervised by associate professor Leo Lahti (Department of Computing).

2. PhD Position in computational humanities
Summary of PhD Program:
The Department of Computing at the University of Turku is searching for a doctoral researcher / project researcher or research assistant in the field of computational humanities. The starting time is 1.10.2022 or later, as agreed. This fixed-term position will end on 31.8.2026. The position is full-time. The work will be carried out as part of an international and multidisciplinary team and includes development and application of open data science methods for computational humanities research. The work includes computational enrichment, integration and analysis of digital cultural heritage data sets, statistical and probabilistic programming, machine learning pipeline development for high-performance computing (HPC) environments, and methodological research on these topics in close collaboration with the National Library of Finland and other application experts. The work is supervised by associate professor Leo Lahti (Department of Computing).

4. PhD Position in immunoregulation
Summary of PhD Program:
T cells orchestrate the immune system and T-cell subsets with distinct cytokine secretion profiles and distinct functions play a crucial role in immune defence in healthy individuals. The project aims at studying our newly discovered novel factors and epigenetic mechanisms that control human T-cell functions and immune mediated diseases. We combine state-of-the-art computational methods, CRISPR-Cas9, cutting-edge genome wide experimental approaches and unique human biobanks to achieve the goals. We expect the results to provide new insights into disease pathogenesis and reveal new contributors of modulation of immune response.
