1. Postdoctoral position in molecular neuroscience project A

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

It is not known how stable silencing of alternative gene programs is maintained once a neuronal identity has been established. This project aims to understand fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying maintenance of differentiated serotonergic and dopaminergic neuronal identity and function. Both cell types are involved in several psychiatric disorders which take a huge toll on individuals and society. In addition, midbrain dopamine neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta constitute the key population whose degeneration is associated with Parkinson’s disease, further underscoring the clinical significance of the project.

2. Post doctor in NMR-based structural biology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This postdoctoral position is part of a Swedish council financed research project to unravel the regulation of programmed cell death at the molecular level with focus on the structure of the proteins and biological membranes involved in this important process. Important key players in the mitochondrial (intrinsic) cell death pathway are membrane-active proteins of the Bcl-2 family. The main objective of this project is to understand the function – and underlying structural properties – of these proteins and their interactions with the mitochondrial membrane environment. For this purpose we will use structural biological methods focusing on solid-state NMR spectroscopy of lipid-protein complexes, complemented by liquid-state NMR.

3. Post-doctorate in oral immunology with a focus on tissue degenerative processes, 2 years

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) is very common and is caused by bacteria found in connection with the teeth and gums. Due to factors that are not fully understood, only some develop periodontitis, which means that the gingivitis process turns into an extensive destruction of the collagen-rich connective tissue and bone that constitute the attachment of the teeth. Bone loss is not only seen in periodontitis, but also in, for example, peri-implantitis and rheumatoid arthritis. In these diseases, bone loss is considered an irreversible condition that risks impairing the function of teeth, implants and joints. However, the molecular mechanisms behind inflammatory bone loss are not fully mapped. Our hypothesis is that there are common molecules that cause inflammation-driven bone loss in individuals who, due to genetic factors, are more susceptible to disease. The overall aim of the project is to identify markers to detect who is at risk of suffering from inflammatory bone loss, such as periodontitis, before the bone breakdown begins.

4. Postdoctoral fellow in Epidemiology, specialization in Social Epidemiology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The work is chiefly focused on conducting research, independently and in close collaboration with the PIs and other participating researchers, and includes data management of national register and survey data, design ideas for papers within the frame of the projects, conduct advanced statistical analysis, write and publish papers, complementary data requests from existing data sources and participation in grant applications for continued funding. The work can also comprise certain additional work at the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, such as teaching, student supervisor and other tasks.

5. Postdoc position focusing on plant-soil interactions in arctic tundra

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This position is part of a larger project that aims to understand and quantify how the presence of plants with different mycorrhizal partners influence plant-soil interactions in arctic tundra and their potential feedbacks to the global climate. A very prominent current change in the arctic landscape is the expansion of deciduous shrubs and trees into tundra. This “shrubification” not only changes the visible plant community but most likely also changes interactions between these plants, the soil community and ecosystem processes. How an increased abundance of ecto-mycorrhizal shrubs instead of the currently dominant ericoid-mycorrhizal shrubs in arctic tundra will affect carbon and nutrient cycling is paramount to predicting how tundra ecosystems will respond to climate change. This project will advance mechanistic understanding of plant-soil interactions in a changing tundra through selective removal of plants with specific mycorrhizal associations from the plant community.

6. Postdoc in Human-AI relations for health and wellbeing

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You will join a growing and dynamic team within the project “Human-Centered AI for Health, Autonomy and Wellbeing”, where we are critically exploring co-design of AI-based tools for health and wellbeing. To do so, we apply soma design, as well as speculative design methods, engaging with more-than-human, decolonial and feminist epistemologies, to critique and explore new design spaces around alternative wellbeing practices, and articulate relations between bodies and AI-based systems. You are encouraged to bring your own unique perspectives, methods, vision, and ways of working to the team.
