1. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

European food systems are highly productive but also face substantial sustainability challenges, including ongoing biodiversity loss, water pollution, and the emission of greenhouse gases. The European Commission has therefore high ambitions regarding food system transformation towards sustainability, as outlined in for instance the Farm to Fork strategy. However, lobby and farmer protests have contributed to a watering down of ambitions. At the same time, it appears to be very hard to increase sustainability objectives in the EU Common Agricultural Policy, which, because of its high budget, has a strong influence on the agricultural sector. And whereas the agricultural sector has a substantial impact on water quality, the implementation of mitigating measures by farmers is largely voluntary under the EU Water Framework Directive.

2. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You will play a central role in our research on Himalayan glaciers, with a specific focus on lake-terminating glaciers. You will use a state-of-the-art modelling, remote sensing, and field measurements to investigate calving behaviour of lake-terminating glaciers and additional glacial mass loss attributed to the formation of proglacial lakes. You will assist in a field campaign to the Himalayas, where you will be gathering essential data on glacier thickness, surface properties, and lake bathymetry, providing vital ground-truthing for the model. Utilising the UFEMISM ice sheet model, you will simulate a chosen lake-terminating glacier in the Himalayas and validate the outcome using in-situ and remote sensing data.

3. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The digital world has transformed the way we read as well as the way we learn how to read, offering both challenges and opportunities. To understand these challenges and opportunities it is important to consider reading processes and outcomes as well as reading education from multiple perspectives. We are searching for a postdoctoral researcher who can assist us in investigating AI and Data Science techniques that can be developed and applied to model and understand the processing of, as well as teaching of reading texts in a digital age.

4. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You will work on a new project on Hybrid Intelligence, which is funded by a 10-year Gravitation Grant from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It brings together many prominent AI researchers in the Netherlands. Hybrid Intelligence (HI) is the combination of human and machine intelligence, expanding human intellect instead of replacing it. HI takes human expertise and intentionality into account when making meaningful decisions and performing appropriate actions, together with ethical, legal and societal values. The vision of the project is to design Hybrid Intelligent systems, an approach to Artificial Intelligence that puts humans at the center, changing the course of the ongoing AI revolution.

5. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

UPSCALE examines the socio-technical transition processes to understand the role of HWT (Health and Welfare Technology) use in the health and care transformation and provide transition pathways on how to achieve user empowerment via HWT use. The socio-technical transition perspective must be distinguished from initiatives focusing on individual technologies, for its truly “transformative” nature – the ability of being capable of determining a radical change in the socio-technical system (to deep-scale) – that differs from “incremental” changes offering innovative solutions but not preparing for real change in the health and care systems.

6. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You’ll be conducting epidemiological analyses using cohort studies and exposome data (eg. geospatial and metabolomics data). At the same time, you will contribute to making the data, resources, and methods you work with Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team that consists of Exposome researchers, data architects, data stewards, and IT specialists. Your position will be nested within two large-scale European projects: STAGE and IHEN.

7. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are working at the interface of biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics to follow the journey of nascent proteins toward their functional structures as they emerge from the ribosome. These mechanistic studies pave the way for targeted interventions against protein misfolding and perturbed protein homeostasis which are important for a number of aging-related diseases, including neurodegeneration, and several forms of cancer.

8. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Over the last decade, CRISPR/Cas9-based techniques have been developed for various genomic engineering strategies in eukaryotic cells. Using single guide RNAs (sgRNA) containing specific targeting sequences, Cas9 can target precise genomic locations. Thus, CRISPR/Cas9-based techniques are of substantial interest for the development of novel therapies to treat genetic diseases. Moreover, as they can be targeted to precise genomic targets with high specificity, they have considerable therapeutic potential for currently “un-druggable” pathologies.
