6. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are interested in a variety of hot topics in the area of systems and hardware security. The aim of the group is to improve the security of modern computer systems. To do that, we often build novel analysis techniques to uncover previously unknown attack surfaces and when appropriate we design and implement new systems to protect against various classes of attacks. This means that the group does heavy technical work, from building low-level systems to analyzing hardware components. Examples of our research topics include hardware design security, microarchitectural security, and operating system security to name a few.

7. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The European Politics Research Group (Prof. Frank Schimmelfennig) at ETH Zurich invites applications for 1-2 doctoral and/or 1-2 postdoctoral researcher positions. The positions are for three years (with some flexibility) and to be filled as soon as possible. The positions are connected to our current research focus on boundary formation, border politics, and polity building in Europe. They are funded by an ongoing ERC-Advanced Grant project (EUROBORD, https://eurobord.ch) and an upcoming research project on “Reconfiguring the EU’s External Boundaries”.

8. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This position is embedded in a project on the Impacts of Air Pollution and Climate Extremes on the Resilience of European Forests (CERES), a collaboration with Prof. Mana Gharun at the University of Münster. We aim to improve the mechanistic understanding of how changes in tree ecophysiology in response to air pollution and climate extremes drive the forest ecosystem’s CO2 and H2O fluxes and thus its capacity to sequester carbon and its evaporative cooling. We will combine long-term deposition simulations, local meteorological measurements, existing tree level growth and water use measurements with whole ecosystem flux measurements to identify ecophysiological resistance and recovery responses to climate extremes under different air pollution along a climatic gradient in Europe.

9. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The work will focus on implementing numerical optimization strategies to design pulse sequences for high-resolution solid-state NMR under magic-angle spinning and static DNP in close collaboration with two PhD students working on these topics. The efficiency of such pulse-sequence elements is key for improving the sensitivity of NMR experiments. To obtain the best performance not only parameters of the spin systems but also experimental imperfections of the spectrometers have to be included in the modelling of the experiment.

10. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

In this research project, we aim to develop, construct, and demonstrate a novel quantum interconnect that can link remote neutral-atom arrays, which have emerged as the most rapidly developing quantum information platform. Error-corrected quantum processing has recently been demonstrated in Rydberg-atom arrays, such that the technology to connect different processing units will be an important next step towards large-scale, fault-tolerant modular quantum computation. This project will pursue a novel approach, which combines individual qubits with mesoscopic atomic ensembles and exploits the unique properties of Rydberg states, to facilitate remote quantum gate operations as well as high fidelity optical interfacing without the need for optical cavities.

11. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Magnetic materials are important for several real-world applications including motors, actuators, sensors and computation. We will characterize the magnetic and material microstructure with novel synchrotron-based 3D imaging techniques, which will give key information for enhancing their efficiency and performance. We are particularly keen to explore phase transitions in magnetic materials, especially focusing on exploring the intricate magnetic configurations made up of topological defects. Our research is primarily driven by deepening our understanding of these materials with the long-term prospect of leveraging their unique properties for applications.

14. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Creating realistic computational models of biological neural networks is among the most difficult challenges of neuroscience. However, such models could be extremely useful both in uderstanding how the brain processes and stores information, and also for reducing the vast parameter space of experimental efforts. At LBB, we have the technology to build well-defined, in vitro networks of living neurons, and interact with them using microelectrode arrays. This provides us with a large amount of highly reproducible data that can be used to validate computational models.
