The rapid increase of autonomous systems, connected devices, and distributed applications pose challenges in dealing with petabytes of data in diverse resource-constrained environments. Federated machine learning (FML) is collaborative learning to handle these problems without sharing data with centralized servers. However, several emerging threats target FML training, learning, and inference to fail or mislead models at early learning rounds. Attackers aim to break trustworthiness under different threat models such as insiders-outsiders attacks, semi-honest or fully malicious participants, and attacks in training, learning, or inference phases. As a result, the learning models fail to provide acceptable performance.

This UmArts artistic research post-doctoral position will be focused on interdisciplinary art and architecture, based at Umeå School of Architecture (UMA), in partnership with the Bildmuseet museum of contemporary art. UmArts post-doctoral artistic research across design and microbiology, based at Umeå Institute of Design (UID), working in partnership with the Department of Molecular Biology. This postdoctoral position is part of a Swedish council financed research project to unravel the regulation of programmed cell death at the molecular level with focus on the structure of the proteins and biological membranes involved in this important process. Important key players in the mitochondrial (intrinsic) cell death pathway are membrane-active proteins of the Bcl-2 family. The main objective of this project is to understand the function – and underlying structural properties – of these proteins and their interactions with the mitochondrial membrane environment. For this purpose we will use structural biological methods focusing on solid-state NMR spectroscopy of lipid-protein complexes, complemented by liquid-state NMR.

9. Postdoctoral fellow in pathology and molecular profiling of prostate cancer
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The project is focused on a detailed histopathology and molecular profiling of prostate cancer in an unique dataset of 55 patients parafin embedded surgical specimens and in-vivo imaging using MR and PET. The overall goal of the project is to find associations between in-vivo imaging with MRI and PET and histopathology and molecular markers. At present point a detailed analysis of the correlation between different markers of tumor aggressiveness such as Gleason score, Ki67 and PSA expression, molecular subtype and the in-vivo imaging in the multiple tumor lesions present in each of these prostates are ongoing. The holder of the position will take part in the current efforts and explore further approaches such as molecular subtyping and exploration of lesion properties that may lead to false negative and false positive imaging results.

14. Postdoctoral position in Bioinformatics and AI models in cancer research
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The final step of cancer metastasis is when the metastatic lesions take over the normal tissue in distant organs, resulting in organ failures. The initiation of metastatic growth in distant organs may require the action of both tumor-specific factors and signals from host organs which may differ from that of primary sites. Thus, the colonization and outgrowth of metastatic descendants may depend on both oncogenic factors from tumor cells and signaling molecules from tumor-associated microenvironment. To explore this unknown field, we propose to identify tumor-intrinsic and tumor environmental factors, and their complex roles. Single cells sorted from primary tumors and their metastatic descendants of prostate or breast cancers will be used. We will assist the computer scientists to develop artificial intelligence predictive model based on genomic, epigenomic and proteomic data at single cell level to predict disease progression and design tailored treatment strategies.
