1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Pain, post-traumatic symptoms and sexual assault
Summary of PhD Program:
The project “Pain, post-traumatic symptoms and sexual assault” is supported by the Council for the Victims’ Fund and is carried out in collaboration with the Center for Rape Victims; OUH, Center for Rape Victims, Lillebælt Hospital and Pain Center South, OUH. Chronic pain is a major health problem. Pain can occur after a traumatic experience and a high symptom overlap between chronic pain and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD) has been documented. The risk of developing PTSD is particularly high after sexual assault, which is why there is probably a significant vulnerability or maintaining factor between pain and PTSD after sexual assault. In the ICD-11 diagnosis system, a distinction is made between PTSD and complex PTSD (KPTSD).

The development of many sustainable foods is hindered by their inability to mimic texture from conventional foods. The structure of foods, as of any other materials, is hierarchically organized differently at different length scales (molecular-micro-macro). While the connection between microstructure and texture becomes more evident, the knowledge of how they are connected is still missing. This project is designed to unveil the physical mechanisms of how the different food macromolecules in plant-based milk alternatives aggregate, and how they impact perceived textural parameters. 9. Fully Funded PhD Position in engineering technical solutions for ocean alkalinity enhancement
Summary of PhD Program:
OAE and alkalinization of rivers and other water bodies are considered a promising nature-based solution to combat climate change. They allow for the removal of CO2 on time scales of thousands of years and could significantly contribute to Denmark’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. While background data is increasingly available and environmental impacts are explored, upscaling and direct applications are hampered by the lack of a suitable technological solution. This project will therefore establish intelligent sensor systems, which can take measurements and make autonomous decisions on real-time alkalinization by allowing precise mineral additions along coasts and estuaries, thus optimizing CO2 removal.

Summary of PhD Program:
Denmark is known for its widespread agricultural land use, to such an extent that Denmark is the country in the EU with the highest share of agricultural land use compared to land mass. Around 64 % of the Danish land use is being utilized for agricultural purposes, which is heavily drained and extensively managed altering the natural hydrology. The drainage has caused increased decomposition rates, as soils are now exposed to oxygen. Over several decades, the soil has experienced higher decomposition rates leading to soil compaction, combined with increased precipitation resulting in water-saturated or flooded soils.

Pharmaceutical suspensions have a number of uses, most pronounced as formulations for the pediatrics population as well as long acting injectibles. Suspensions are disperse systems, hence they are thermodynamically unstable. The current framework to predict the stability of disperse systems relies on the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory for aggregation of aqueous dispersions, however, there is surprising little novel investigation into the field of suspension stability and the application of AI and ML have not been extensively employed in the field.
