2. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Tissue homeostasis relies on constant tissue renewal, notably within the rapidly regenerating intestinal epithelium. Precise control of cell proliferation during differentiation is critical for maintaining tissue homeostasis, as its disruptions lead to atrophy or cancer. Our research focuses on elucidating how cell proliferation and differentiation are orchestrated in the intestinal epithelium. In particular, we aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying the cell fate decision of intestinal epithelial stem cells by live imaging of mouse intestinal organoids, multiplexed tissue imaging, and quantitative analyses.

8. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A post-doc in the theory of quantum computing with solid-state devices and Bayesian statistics. The goal is to develop methods to improve the performance of current devices affected by noise and other real-world imperfections. The targeted improvement is envisaged to come from devising novel—automatized, more efficient, and faster—protocols for qubit array tune-up, multi-qubit manipulations, and qubit measurements. The core of the work is to explore how much better these tasks can performed by employing feedback and utilizing machine learning and other statistical learning methods.

9. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The lab’s mission is to discover fundamental mechanisms how the brain functions and malfunctions at molecular, cellular, circuit and behavioral levels by including “the other half” of the CNS; a type of glia called astrocytes, which tile the entire brain contacting neurons, synapses and other glia. By developing and utilizing genetic and optical tools, the team aims to unveil astrocyte contributions to adaptive and maladaptive animal behaviors for delivering insights on future therapeutics.

11. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We need to increase crop productivity and keep the yields stable under harsh environments, including global warming. Our research focuses on the reproductive roles of numerous NON-coding RNAs, which don’t encode protein, in crop sciences. This research aim is to elucidate the reproductive non-coding RNA system in plants and the importance of non-coding genomic regions that are ubiquitously present in higher organisms. As a final goal, we intend to develop the RNA regulation devices via functional RNAs that are respectively adapted under various environments.

15. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Symbioses are fundamental to life on Earth. The most ancestral association between plants and fungi emerged around 450 mya and is now so widespread among terrestrial plant species that it fundamentally supports global ecosystems, as well as crop productivity and sustainability.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi belong to the Glomeromycotina subphylum, and facilitate plant mineral uptake from the soil in exchange for plant-derived organic carbon. The establishment of functional symbioses relies on the fine-tuned orchestration of signals to achieve coordination of the two interacting organisms. While considerable understanding of plant signalling mechanisms have been gained in recent years, we know near to nothing about fungal signalling components. To close this gap in knowledge, we wish to reciprocally elucidate how the fungus undergoes reprogramming to engage with its host rice.

16. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our group is working on both artificial and biological catalysis. Namely, we are developing electrocatalysts for hydrogen production and other reactions related to clean energy, while also studying the reason behind the diversity of enzymes for amino-acid biosynthesis. While the two topics may seem distant at first glance, both systems are designed to promote specific chemical reactions, and therefore, there are similarities in the underlying principles of physical chemistry.

Furthermore, we are currently expanding the theoretical framework such that not only activity, but also selectivity, stability, lifetime, self-replication, and other life-like properties can be predicted mathematically. Based on the multi-dimensional evaluation of both artificial and biological catalytic systems, we aim to promote sustainable energy-material conversion.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Machine learning with big labeled data has been actively investigated and its effectiveness has been demonstrated. However, in many application domains, it is difficult or even it is not possible to collect a large amount of labeled data. In the Imperfect Information Learning Team, for various machine learning tasks including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning, we develop novel algorithms that allow accurate and robust learning from imperfect information. We also elucidate their theoretical properties and apply them to various real-world applications ranging from fundamental science to business. The successful candidate is expected to develop algorithms of weakly-supervised learning, analyze theoretical properties, and perform experiments individually. Supervising interns and part-time students as well as supporting industry projects and academic event organization are also expected.
