A postdoctoral scholarposition is available in Dr. Carolyn Coyne’s laboratory at Duke University inthe Department of Mo lecular Genetics and Microbiology. We study the mechanismsby which patho gens cross cellular barriers, focusing on both thegastrointestinal tract and placenta. We utilize human primary cells, tissue andstem cell-derived organoids, and in vivo animal models to define the mechanismsby which viruses such as enteroviruses cross cellular barriers and howteratogeni c pathogens including Zika virus (ZIKV), Listeria monocytogenes, andToxo plasma gondii cross the placental barrier. Available projects use a rang eof microbiology, cell biology, and immunology techniques and will also involvecutting-edge sequencing techniques and bioinformatics.
