1. PhD Position in the area of dermatology and medical diagnostics

Summary of PhD Program:

Onur Parklak lab is a newly established laboratory in the Dermatology and venereology Division that aims to use innovative science at the interface between biotechnology, materials science, and electronics to tackle the key area of critical importance to society: healthcare and biomaterials. Parlak Lab investigates the application of bioelectronics in medicine to meet the need for complex, dynamic environments and to develop novel devices for dermatological and neurological diseases. The overall aim of the lab is to develop new technologies to combat healthcare challenges and design novel tools for early diagnostics and solutions for digital medicine and remote monitoring.

2. PhD Position in Cancer Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics

Summary of PhD Program:

The doctoral student project is in breast cancer epidemiology and applied biostatistics, where novel statistical methods for cancer epidemiology will be applied to address clinically important research questions. The research project encompasses large-scale epidemiological studies with population-based cancer register data. The overall aim is to quantify and describe incidence and survival of breast cancer subtypes in Sweden and evaluation of hypothesized risk factors, e.g. patient, tumour and treatment factors. The project uses advanced methodology for cohort studies, including statistical modelling of incidence and survival in the presence of missing data. Data materials include the Swedish health and population registers, and in particular the National Quality Register for Breast Cancer (NKBC).

3. PhD Position in Biostatistics / Epidemiology

Summary of PhD Program:

Applicants are invited for a PhD research training position to work on a project on survival following a diagnosis of malignant melanoma. The overall aim is to quantify and describe survival inequalities as well as differences in melanoma patient survival by sex. This will be done using statistical methods for estimating loss in life expectancy, a measure of how much a patient’s life expectancy is reduced due to a cancer diagnosis, compared to the life expectancy in the general population. These analyses will use the large-scale Swedish health and population registers. The doctoral project will be a mix of biostatistics and epidemiology.

4. PhD Position in Health economics / Epidemiology

Summary of PhD Program:

The aims of this doctoral project are to (1) estimate the costs of breast cancer, (2) evaluate the cost-effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) assisted breast pathology, (3) evaluate the cost-effectiveness of AI-assisted prostate pathology, (4) measure health-related quality of life for prostate cancer, and (5) describe inequalities in prostate cancer testing, incidence and treatment. Methods for these studies include: cost-of-illness studies (study 1); meta-analysis for health state values (studies 2-4); development and calibration of Markov models for cost-effectiveness analysis (studies 2-3); study design and fieldwork for the measurement of health state values (study 4); and analyses of health data using the Swedish health and population registers (studies 1-5).

5. PhD Position in Epidemiology

Summary of PhD Program:

The student will perform epidemiological studies of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and the effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccination. The doctoral project will be a mix of network analyses, epidemiology and biostatistics. The successful applicant will be supervised by Pontus Naucler (Lecturer in Epidemiology), Jan Albert (Professor of Infectious Disease Control) and Fredrik Liljeros (Professor in Sociology)

6. PhD Position in signal transduction and targeted therapy in cancer

Summary of PhD Program:

The overall objective for the PhD student (PhDs) is to learn and perform innovative preclinical studies to investigate the function of the βarr/GRKs signaling complexes involved in the GPCR/RTK crosstalk. The successful candidate will also learn how to use the generated knowledge to develop novel strategies for improved management of cancer patients. The supervisors represent expertise in tumor pathology, molecular pathology and tumor biology. The group has established model systems to study dysregulated signaling and its relation to tumor progression. The translational approach is aided through access to clinical material relevant for the project and close clinical collaborations.
