3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Measurement Methods, Reliability, and Uncertainty in Acoustic-Mechanical Microsystems

Summary of PhD Program:

Smart hearables broadly comprise any audio system that is capable of capturing, processing, and reproducing sound and is placed in, near, or over the user’s ears. The small millimetre and sub-millimetre scale of these devices and their components provides many practical challenges to accurately measure sound and vibration. A number of common measurement techniques exist but are generally customized to a specific part or system. No common standards exist for experimental aspects such as handling, mounting, and fixing, sealing, or selection of measurement locations. This leads to a high variability and uncertainty in measurement results, especially when comparing different procedures, locations, parts, and designs.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Data driven design optimization and control of wind power plants

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD project is at the intersection of data science, optimization and control, all with applications to wind energy science. Cost efficient wind power plant development implies design and operational optimization. In design phase, one of the crucial tasks is finding the optimal layout, i.e. wind turbine locations, such that the energy production is maximized. While significant research has been done in this area, most approaches involve heuristics/metaheuristics and numerical optimization methods. Very little attention has so far been given to using AI approaches for the layout optimization of wind power plants.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Circular Construction – reuse of insulated concrete wall elements

Summary of PhD Program:

The section for Materials and Durability at DTU Sustain is seeking a PhD candidate with an interest in circular construction for a project enabling reuse of insulated concrete wall elements. The construction industry is entering a time of innovation, with a much-needed transition to more sustainable practices. Reuse of construction elements is a promising way to remediate some of the difficulties the industry is facing, such as lowering carbon emissions, decreasing waste generation and reducing raw material consumption. Insulated concrete wall elements have been widely used in Denmark since the 1950’s. They are made from energy-heavy materials such as concrete and mineral wool, and thereby expected to account for a significant carbon saving potential if reused. This project tackles barriers all through the reuse process of the elements.
