2. Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Department of Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health invites applications from PhD or other doctoral-level degree holders for a postdoctoral position in tobacco control research. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Daniel Giovenco), the successful candidate will play an integral role on a NIH-funded project exploring the diverse tobacco retail environment in the U.S. and its impact on tobacco use disparities. The primary responsibilities would be to analyze and interpret population survey data, tobacco sales data, and data on tobacco marketing at the point-of-sale; to contribute to the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations; to assist with the preparation of new funding applications; and, to pursue independent research in tobacco control, the epidemiology of tobacco/other substance use, health disparities, and/or related fields. Although the candidate will dedicate most of their effort to the grant’s research activities, they will be encouraged to pursue independent research interests within the field of substance use. The duration of this position is 12 months, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

3. Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The laboratory of Dr. Milner seeks a postdoctoral fellow with experience in human and/or mouse lymphocyte immunology. Our laboratory studies patients with known or yet to be discovered monogenic diseases of allergy in order to determine how genetic lesions cause atopic phenotypes. Lymphocyte receptor and cytokine signaling pathways are often implicated, as well as novel pathways more poorly understood, leading to a research program that integrates signaling and differentiation studies, disease modeling with functional study of mutant transfections, and in some cases, mouse models of human disease. This is an excellent opportunity to gain expertise in an innovative area at the interface of genomics and immunology with direct clinical relevance as well.

4. Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the lab of George Hasko, MD, PhD. Primary responsibilities are in the area of regulation of the host’s response to hemorrhagic shock and organ ischemia-reperfusion injury by purinergic receptors including ATP and adenosine receptors. The experiments conducted will use animal models of hemorrhagic shock and ischemia-reperfusion injury. The research also comprises methods such as immunoblotting, ELISA, real-time PCR, biochemical assays and flow cytometry. The selectee will also assist with the instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians and laboratory assistants as required. In addition, the selectee will submit purchase recommendations of equipment and supplies to his/her supervisor. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

5. Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) at Columbia University, in partnership with AstraZeneca’s Center for Genomics Research (CGR), is seeking a motivated and creative postdoctoral research scholar to uncover disease mechanisms across a wide range of conditions, and ultimately to drive the development of new precision medicines. The successful applicant will apply an existing gene-based rare-variant association pipeline as well as develop novel statistical genetics and computational methods to drive gene discovery from large whole exome and whole genome data sets, paired with corresponding phenotype data. The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant research environment in the IGM. The IGM is an integral part of Columbia University’s Precision Medicine Initiative. As part of this Initiative, the IGM sequences and performs comprehensive genomic analyses on more than 10,000 patient genomes per year in order to identify new therapeutic targets.

7. Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

There is currently a postdoctoral research scientist position available in the Stem Cell and Cellular Models Platform in the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain. The Platform, directed by Dr. Andrew Sproul, serves as a proactive resource to help generate human pluripotent stem cell (PSC) models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases, with a large focus on late-onset AD (LOAD). LOAD risk factors, and other genomic modifications, will be knocked into control PSC backbones using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. These isogenic PSC lines will subsequently be differentiated into disease-relevant cell types in both monolayer and organoid formats for functional assays. Differentiation strategies include overexpression of transcription factors by lentiviral transduction.
