4. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The recent decade has seen an unprecedented acceleration in climate change and related weather extremes. In 2022 countries were struck by extreme floods with Pakistan being the worst-hit (33 million people affected). There are major outstanding questions as to how aerosol-cloud interactions control /modify these climate extremes and extreme weather events. To make progress we require improved predictive models and knowledge of the processes controlling aerosols, clouds, and their interactions. To improve weather and climate forecasts we need improved fundamental knowledge of so-called secondary ice mechanisms. Secondary ice mechanisms occur in mixed-phase clouds and are thought to impact clouds and rainfall.

8. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The research is focused on engaging as many different people and communities for whom the PACE farms might have relevance, as possible. At a local community level, it’s bringing them along with the planning of the whole project; asking questions about what they want their PACE farm to produce, how it should work to meet their needs, and what they would like to see done, to help them feel that this is something that is very much a resource for their own communities. At a wider Manchester residents level (from marginalised to affluent groups), it’s about awareness raising, demystifying the concept of growing in a protected and controlled environment, and exploring the potential for the food grown in the PACE farms to be marketed and retailed (with attention to the cost of living crisis and other barriers for marginalised groups).

14. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Professor Luczak’s current research interests are largely in Markov chains, with an emphasis on rigorous analysis of their long-term behaviour. She has developed tools for proving results of this type, and the successful candidate will assist her in adapting these techniques to treat specific classes of Markov chains arising in application areas such as mathematical biology and computer science. For instance, there are a number of stochastic models of epidemics where the course of the epidemic is known to follow the solution of a differential equation over short time-intervals, but where little or nothing has been proved about the long-term behaviour of the stochastic process. There will also be opportunities for the post-holder to develop their own research agenda, and to work with others in the Probability and Statistics group in Manchester.

15. Postdoctoral Job

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Nagarajan lab within the Division of Molecular and Cellular Function, School of Biological Sciences wish to appoint a bioinformatics-based Research Associate to an exciting project exploring transcriptional mechanisms of noncoding RNAs in breast cancers. During this position, the post-holder will work on the epigenetic and enhancer-related mechanisms regulated by chromatin proteins identified from our CRISPR screen and RNA-seq analysis, to regulate/associate with noncoding RNA expression leading to mRNA regulation. We are examining the global changes in transcription and enhancer activity regulated by these chromatin proteins and define the role of them in transcriptional regulation in human breast cancer cell lines. A large part of the work by the candidate will be in analysing KAS-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, bulk and single cell RNA-seq datasets generated on the Illumina next generation sequencing platform in an integrative manner to understand the specific role of the epigenetic proteins in mRNA regulation.
