10. Postdoctoral Research Fellow Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Bieberich Lab at the University of Kentucky, Lexington KY. The initial focus of the postdoctoral scientist will be exciting NIH-funded projects examining function of lipids, particularly the sphingolipid ceramide, in neural development and neurodegeneration. We have long-term funding and immediate openings related to projects on the function of sphingolipids, specifically ceramide and sphingosine-1-phosphate, in cell signaling for neural development and disease. Particularly, we are interested in the role of ceramide for extracellular vesicle-mediated neurodegeneration and sphingosine-1-phosphate-mediated activation of glia in Alzheimer’s disease. We use integrative omics approaches to identify candidate cell signaling factors regulated by sphingolipids as well as mechanism-driven targeted approaches applying cutting edge molecular biology, imaging, and spectrometric techniques in unique transgenic animal models and cell culture, including human iPS cells.

13. Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Weisrock Lab at the University of Kentucky is looking for a postdoc to join the lab and work on research related to ongoing phylogenetic and/or population genetic projects. Current data-ready research projects include a phylogenomic investigation of diversification of salamandrid salamanders (i.e., the newts). The hired postdoc would also have opportunities to participate in the development of new research projects. The Weisrock Lab research program comprises a broad range of interests, with no one major research focus, or taxonomic system. Generally, we use DNA sequence data to study patterns of genetic variation within and between species, and we use these data to learn more about the histories and processes that have shaped these patterns. This includes very fine-scale studies of variation within species to learn, for example, how changing environments or human-mediated factors are influencing populations, to the comparison of genomic data from divergent species separated by millions of years to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships and learn something about species diversification.
