Eligibility Criteria

Regardless of their subject of study, researchers with a PhD and above-average credentials from anywhere in the globe are eligible for the Humboldt Research Fellowship.


Did you acquire your doctorate, or an equivalent academic degree like a Ph.D., C.Sc., or anything similar, no more than four years ago when you submitted your application? Which doctorate date applies if I have received several doctorates?

Can I apply before completing my PhD?

You may apply if your PhD will be finished in the next six months. In the event that the application is approved, the research funding cannot be initiated until the PhD has been finished. Please take notice that your application must be formally denied if your dissertation has not yet been published at the time of application and you are unable to submit any more scientific publications.

How is the date of the doctorate determined?

Applying the date of completion of the last scientific accomplishment necessary for the PhD procedure (such as the dissertation defence or final oral examination). Can I carry out my research stay with two academic hosts?
