9. Two-year postdoc position to study large mammal impacts on the spatiotemporal environmental heterogeneity in elemental availability
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Inter- and intra-specific variation in plant stoichiometric characteristics could be driven by morphological and physiological traits/responses and by the spatiotemporal environmental heterogeneity in elemental availability. All of these aspects can be influenced by top-down impact from large mammalian herbivores (through consumption, elemental return through dung, urine and carcasses and through the physical modification of soils). This postdoc project will contribute to the broader objectives of the overarching project “The chemical landscapes of Danish rewilded ecosystems” which attempts to assess how the restored impact from large mammalian herbivores affects the multi-elemental, stoichiometric niche space available to primary producers. As part of the broader team, the postdoc will help to quantify herbaceous layer structural, and species compositional shifts triggered by herbivore impact. Using this information, the postdoc will be responsible for describing stoichiometric shifts along animal impact gradients and contrasting the stoichiometric niche space of the different plant communities that develop in the wake of varying levels of animal influence.

10. Postdoc: De novo design of functional intrinsically disordered proteins
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) play important roles in molecular biology, however, are rarely used in biotechnology. This project aims to develop strategies for designing new functionally active intrinsically disordered proteins. In the process, we hope to improve our understanding of sequence-function relationships in IDPs and test their “designability”. There will be considerable room for the successful candidate to shape the project within the overall project theme. The project will mainly involve experimental biochemistry and biophysics, but may also involve theoretical elements of bioinformatics or numerical modelling.

11. 2-yr postdoc on “macroecological studies on large-herbivore effects on past or present ecosystems & plant diversity”
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
This position is focused on studying wild large-herbivore effects on ecosystems & plant diversity through either macroecological studies on present-day and/or past ecosystems. There are two potential focus areas for this position, one of which will be selected based on the match to the selected candidate for the position: (1) Pollen-based reconstructions of Middle and Early Pleistocene warm-period ecosystem structure in Europe, based on existing pollen records and land cover modelling, to help better understand natural ecosystem structure to inform our basic understanding of the evolution of European biota and to inform rewilding science and actions. We may also include complementary work on habitat and diet of large herbivores in these systems via approaches such as stable isotopes (including new analyses of existing specimens). (2) Human-driven global environmental changes are increasingly driving shifts in plant communities.

26. Two-year postdoctoral position: Past social networks, Centre for Urban Network Evolutions
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The post.doc. will be part of the research project ‘The Past Social Networks Project: The first open online repository for network data of ancient social relationships’, headed by Principal Investigator Associate Professor Tom Brughmans and funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. The Past Social Networks Project is an interdisciplinary project that draws on classical archaeology, network science, history and computer science. How do present-day social networks differ from those in the past, and how have these structures changed over centuries? The key to these important questions lies with archaeological and historical network research, offering the material and textual sources that document interactions between past individuals. But answering such questions is currently hampered by a number of challenges: past social network data are rarely being made open access and a methodological pipeline for comparative studies of centuries-long change in past social networks is missing. The Past Social Networks Project aims to address these challenges.

28. Two 2-year Postdoc positions in Computational Chemistry/ Computational Biophysics
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Understanding cellular membranes and how the lipid components may play more active roles in signaling and other functions of membrane proteins is an intriguing task. Traditionally, the membrane has been seen as a simple barrier between the cellular interior and exterior, as reflected in most textbooks, with a single lipid type. However, recent advances in lipid research suggest that the lipid membrane composition and the lipid binding sites of membrane proteins are crucial elements that regulate cellular functions. State-of-the-art computational methods may hold the key to improving our understanding of the cell membrane function and the lipid contribution.
