1. Postdoctoral position in studies of automated welfare provision in Europe

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position is part of the Automated Welfare (AUTO-WELF) research project which runs 2022-2025 and is funded by CHANSE. AUTO-WELF approaches automated welfare from the perspective of the people implicated in the processes of automated decision-making (ADM)—the infrastructural engineers and designers of automated decision-making systems, the case workers who collaborate with automated decision-making systems about welfare and service provision, and the people whose data feed the systems and who are targeted in processes of enhancing welfare through automation. AUTO-WELF addresses digital transformations of work by focusing on development, data work and human-machine collaboration in ADM processes; as well as the role of technological, social, and cultural dynamics in enhancing or hindering advances in automating welfare for the benefit of the people.

5. Postdoctoral position in fact-checking, facts and truth in political debate

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The TMT project investigates questions of facts and truths in political debate and focuses primarily on the practice and role of journalistic fact-checkers. The project understands the establishment of facts as a fundamentally rhetorical practice where people argue for and try to gain support for their way of understanding and conveying the truth. Moreover, the project highlights that this happens in a world where traditional authorities and institutions are severely challenged, while, at the same time, the rise of the internet, social media, algorithms, AI, and machine learning are fundamentally reshaping media and politics, making it possible for new types of actors to gain power in a hybrid media system. In this, fact-checkers unquestionably play a central role, but – as the TMT project argues – not as objective truth-tellers, but as an integrated part of the argumentative process over truth.

9. Post-doc position in Philosophy of Science / STS

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The aim of the overall research project is to develop an empirically informed philosophical framework for addressing the conservationist’s dilemma. This dilemma arises from the fact that, in their efforts protect (critically) endangered species, conservation policy makers can be confronted with disputes among biological taxonomists about how to individuate those species in the first place. On the one hand, species conservation programs cannot wait for the resolution of such disputes; on the other hand, these programs risk being misdirected if they are rooted in flawed taxonomic perspectives. In addressing this dilemma, the project will break new ground in the burgeoning philosophical scholarship on the role of values in science, advance research in the philosophy of taxonomy, and forge new connections between these domains of research. In addition, the project will provide actionable philosophical knowledge for taxonomists and conservationists who face the conservationist’s dilemma in practice.

13. Post Doc in climate variability over the last two millennia linking the Greenland/North Atlantic/ Nordic region

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

As part of the Independent Research Foundation Denmark funded project “GreenPlanning”,the Physics of Ice, Climate and Earth group is offering a postdoc position for a period of 2 years commencing 1 December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. In Denmark and Northern Europe winters are relatively warm and moist, while summers only rarely are hot and dry, providing us a hospital climate despite a northern latitude. However, due to frequent blocking in the atmospheric flow extended periods of severe precipitation or temperature anomalies often prevail. In GreenPlanning the aim is to provide new knowledge to explain some of these major year-to-year and decadal scale fluctuations in weather related to large-scale atmospheric modes of variability. Specifically, we target the influence from Greenland Ice sheet melt on climate fluctuations in our region. We hypothesize that variations in the melt water contributes to shaping of the surrounding sea surface temperatures and in term control large-scale atmospheric circulation.

21. Postdoc in cellular processes that modulate skeletal muscle mass and insulin sensitivity in health and disease

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The decline in muscle mass and function represents one of the most dramatic and significant changes during the ageing process and is accelerated in age-related conditions such as diabetes and cancer. Skeletal muscle is a key organ for movement, respiration, and mastication and is critically implicated in organismal metabolic control. We and others have discovered that small Rho GTPases regulate muscle mass and insulin sensitivity, however, little is known about their regulation. Addressing that knowledge gap could facilitate development of therapeutic approaches to treat conditions associated with loss of muscle mass and insulin resistance, incl. sarcopenia, diabetes and/or cancer cachexia.
