3. Post-doctoral fellow in aerodynamics and energetics
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Many bird species in arctic and temperate regions perform annual migrations between their breeding and wintering sites. To do so they may employ alternative strategies, involving how to split the journey between flight and stopover episodes, when to undertake migratory flights in relation to external factors. To allow long non-stop flights, sometimes lasting several days, the use of on-board energy has to be economic. Still, the Newtonian laws of dynamics dictates the aerodynamic forces the flapping wings can generate. In recent years, a rapid technological development, not least by using sophisticated techniques for time-resolved flow visualization of vortex wakes, have made it possible to quantify the aerodynamic properties of flying birds. The main focus of the research for this position will be related to aerodynamic efficiency of bird flight.

5. Post-doctoral fellow in soil microbiology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The aim of this project is to examine the mechanisms by which ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi mobilize and acquire nutrients associated with iron-oxide mineral particles. In boreal forest soils, a major fraction of plant growth-limiting nutrients including nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) is associated with iron oxide minerals. To access such nutrients, trees are dependent on the activity of ECM fungal root symbionts. You will study the molecular mechanisms of nutrient acquisition at the fungus-iron oxide interface and how the reactions are regulated in heterogeneous redox environments. The experiments will be conducted in laboratory model systems. Of particular interest is the characterization of secreted iron(III)-reducing metabolites that cause reductive dissolution of iron oxides and how these metabolites affect the release of mineral-associated nutrients.

9. Post doctor in Biology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Soils store much more carbon (C) than the atmosphere and the living biosphere together, and microorganisms play an important role to govern whether C compounds remain in the soil, or whether they are disintegrated back to CO2. An important mechanism of long-term C storage is the physical stabilization of organic matter within the soil structure, meaning that C can be “hidden” from its decomposers in the complex matrix of soil aggregates, but the processes involved are not well understood. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow for an interdisciplinary project in microbial ecology at the Department of Biology, Lund University. The project focuses on performing experiments in microfluidic models for the physical and chemical heterogeneity simulating soil microhabitats.

10. Researcher in modeling of bioaerosols, layer-clouds and climate with AI
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Bioaerosols in mixed-phase layer-clouds can initiate ice and thereby may influence the precipitation and microphysical properties of the clouds, such as the numbers and sizes of cloud-particles aloft. This in turn may influence radiative fluxes and meteorological conditions at the land surface where the bioaerosols are emitted. It is an open question whether bioaerosols, if their microphysical effects are treated in detail with competing sources of ice also represented, can influence the climate on the global scale. The project will address this topic.

21. Postdoctoral fellow in Mesoscopic Light-Matter Entanglement in Hybrid Solid-State Networks
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Microwave cavities coupled to quantum dots are highly controllable quantum systems that combine bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom and which may form the basis of a wide range of quantum technological applications. 26. Postdoctoral fellow in Molecular Evolution
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Animal origins remains enigmatic, although it was one of the most successful evolutionary events in Earth history. Visible evidence of this event is a sudden appearance of animal fossil diversity in ~543 million years old rocks, of the so-called Cambrian explosion. The Cambrian explosion of animal diversity is often associated with an increase of free oxygen but was most likely also a result of preceding re-arrangements of biological capacities. The overall aim of this postdoc fellowship is to explore re-arrangements of biological capacities that could have occurred at this evolutionary transition when animals diversified as a function of increased heritable variation. To further elucidate the route to increased heritable variation and evolvability, the postdoc may also inquire the role of polyploidy for the evolvability of cancer cells.

27. Post-doctoral fellow in physical chemistry
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are engineered proteins that can serve as substitute antibodies in the immune system. Due to their high potential in e.g. cancer treatment they attract enormous attention from the pharmaceutical industry. At the same time the formulation of high concentration injectable mAb biologics is very challenging as it is often severely limited due to high turbidity and/or high viscosity. In this project we aim at establishing an approach to understand the origin of this behaviour and to predict it from low concentration data and mAb molecular structure. The postdoc we are looking for will apply a variety of static and dynamic scattering techniques (based on light and x-rays) on mAb samples, including static and dynamic light scattering (SLS/DLS), small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) and x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS), and analyse the data. (S)he will also perform microrheology experiments, establish mAb phase/state diagrams and closely work together with simulators and theoreticians in a concerted effort towards a better understanding of the complex solution behaviour of mAbs.
